i think everything will fall apart

2018-11-04 00:11:16 UTC

Or we could have Stratocracy, unironically.

Only those who have struggled for their citizenship can vote

2018-11-04 00:11:18 UTC

the kids will not know how the machine works

2018-11-04 00:11:27 UTC

The children can continue being children

2018-11-04 00:11:53 UTC

no, lol

2018-11-04 00:11:58 UTC

they will get curious

2018-11-04 00:12:04 UTC

and fuck around with shit

2018-11-04 00:12:14 UTC

like kids do

2018-11-04 00:12:27 UTC

that is why tradition is so important

2018-11-04 00:12:32 UTC

I meant the overgrown children we colloquially call 'adults'

2018-11-04 00:12:56 UTC

this applies to them

2018-11-04 00:13:22 UTC

Can you explain? What will they fuck around with?

2018-11-04 00:14:20 UTC

the structures that would be in place

2018-11-04 00:14:55 UTC

i guess i should go back to what i was saying

2018-11-04 00:15:03 UTC

yeah, sorry

2018-11-04 00:20:40 UTC

the point i was trying to make, is that you cant create prosperity without also creating complacency
so that eventually, if society keeps improving, there would be some sort of imperative to keep the youth in check, and to teach them the value of what they have.
without that mechanism in place, they will end up,through ignorance, destroying the system.
so what i was talking about earlier was a need for some sort of program to combat that

2018-11-04 00:21:41 UTC

Yes, I agree.

Thing is, you can't 'fix' everyone

2018-11-04 00:21:49 UTC

right

2018-11-04 00:22:02 UTC

but we need the majority

2018-11-04 00:22:13 UTC

I'm not sure being egalitarian in that sense is even preferable

2018-11-04 00:22:34 UTC

can you explain that more?

2018-11-04 00:23:40 UTC

Like, *attempting* to get as many people into that position as possible.

The thing about hardship and its relation to responsibility, is that it has to be completely voluntary for it to even work.

2018-11-04 00:23:55 UTC

People need to *want* to become a better person

2018-11-04 00:24:08 UTC

um..maybe

2018-11-04 00:24:22 UTC

And I think that for a majority of humans, that will never be the case

2018-11-04 00:24:41 UTC

The old "sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs" thing

2018-11-04 00:25:30 UTC

which is why i was talking about this in the context of fascism

2018-11-04 00:25:44 UTC

it almost needs to be forced

2018-11-04 00:25:48 UTC

true, but it doesn't sound very fascist lol

2018-11-04 00:25:57 UTC

Authoritarian, yes

2018-11-04 00:26:11 UTC

okay, sure

2018-11-04 00:26:18 UTC

that is a better word

2018-11-04 00:26:56 UTC

Which is why i brought up stratocracy unironically, because this is the exact phenomenon that Heinlein was talking about in the pre-history of Starship Troopers

2018-11-04 00:27:30 UTC

Prosperity leads to decadence, which leads to a slow collapse of responsiblity

2018-11-04 00:27:37 UTC

Yet, responsibility can't be forced

2018-11-04 00:27:51 UTC

exactly

2018-11-04 00:29:03 UTC

So even if we could have a societal mechanism which indoctrinated everyone into having the toolkit necessary to take on responsibility, very few still would, and now you'd have a bunch of angry young adults on your hands because you forced them through this

2018-11-04 00:29:39 UTC

well, you would need to be able to back it up

2018-11-04 00:29:48 UTC

and do it at an early age

2018-11-04 00:29:51 UTC

with love

2018-11-04 00:30:09 UTC

you want them to feel a part of it
