I mean, it could be true, the Sephardic Jews were expelled from Spain during the reign of Isabell of Castile in the late 1400s. Though most emigrated and took refuge in North Africa (where they still live to this day), it isn't completely improbable that some could have emigrated to the New World. Another interesting fact is, that any person who is a Sephardic Jew has the right to claim Spanish citizenship at any time and will be issued a Passport without having to go through an Spanish Nationality test.
