what do you think about the shutdown? I think it's just hilarious how little importance the government has on regular life. Wonder if this is going to be a new world record. govt constantly thinks it's oh-so important but nobody actually misses it when it's gone.

2019-01-25 01:15:26 UTC

not that I'd argue for complete anarchy, but I do think the current situation is pretty hilarious.

2019-01-25 01:15:31 UTC

I think kt sucks for the workers

2019-01-25 01:16:05 UTC

it would need to be shut down for extended periods of time to really be felt by the man on the street, though

2019-01-25 01:16:16 UTC

They have to work, they can't not show up or they are in major trouble

2019-01-25 01:16:17 UTC

you've got frameworks to keep things in order for a while

2019-01-25 01:17:02 UTC

So I sympathise with the workers.

2019-01-25 01:17:17 UTC

But it must be done.

2019-01-25 01:17:51 UTC

why can't they be paid, though?

2019-01-25 01:18:02 UTC

the sucky part was that the democrats did block a vote for giving the workers a pay check as the lockdown had gone for such a long time

2019-01-25 01:18:20 UTC

you don't stop tax collecting for shutdown period, do you?

2019-01-25 01:18:34 UTC

Yeah, well I used to work for the (well, not american) government and comparing their work to the free market is like comparing a snail to a ferrari - 90% of people who work for the government spend most of their day just drinking coffee. It sucks for the workers, but then again, they chose to work for the government.

2019-01-25 01:18:37 UTC

nope as that is seen as an essential operation

2019-01-25 01:18:43 UTC

Congress must approve the bill

2019-01-25 01:18:48 UTC

I mean sure it sucks for them not getting paid

2019-01-25 01:19:16 UTC

but that's little different from the free market sometimes you're not getting paid there either

2019-01-25 01:19:48 UTC

you've got some efficiency issues, obviously, but then again most public sectors do around the world

2019-01-25 01:20:08 UTC

Usually not because a group of elected officials decide to forget how to be adults

2019-01-25 01:21:27 UTC

the entire shutdown "mechanic" seems childish in itself

2019-01-25 01:21:38 UTC

It isnt a mechanic

2019-01-25 01:21:43 UTC

It is a byproduct

2019-01-25 01:21:46 UTC

we can't get what we want? Tough shit, nobody does! REEE

2019-01-25 01:21:51 UTC

that's why I put it in quotation marks

2019-01-25 01:22:41 UTC

To be fair, if you cannot agree on the budget, this is what will always happen.

2019-01-25 01:23:04 UTC

why are you still awake mal?

2019-01-25 01:23:13 UTC

isn't it like 1am for you?

2019-01-25 01:23:15 UTC

if that happened here, an election would be called

2019-01-25 01:23:19 UTC

it that this time both sides refuses to budge

2019-01-25 01:23:25 UTC

2:23

2019-01-25 01:23:40 UTC

yeah welll in the US, we don't have snap elections

2019-01-25 01:24:09 UTC

We follow our elections, unlike you. We just do not have them at will.

2019-01-25 01:24:26 UTC

and we also don't suspend our constitutions <:pepe_smug:378719408341909506>

2019-01-25 01:24:41 UTC

give it time <:pepe_smug:378719408341909506>

2019-01-25 01:24:44 UTC

...Usually....

2019-01-25 01:25:18 UTC

*glares at democrats*

2019-01-25 01:25:28 UTC

We will destroy ourselves, we know this and always expected it.

2019-01-25 01:25:59 UTC

LIncoln was a Republican and he suspended the constitution a couple of times. Still FDR was worse.

2019-01-25 01:27:00 UTC

he didn't suspend the constitution, just habeas corpus

2019-01-25 01:27:13 UTC

Did you know that the American public supported the Axis more than Britain and France before entering WWI?

2019-01-25 01:27:16 UTC

Habeus is in the constitution.

2019-01-25 01:27:34 UTC

@Jym and don't forget the fascists favorite president, Wilson
