I think it is like corruption. Nobody is going to hold 'their' candidate or official responsible.

Ive met many many people that defend their politician when they vote or behave in ways that those same people point at others for.

Maybe we should have a negative vote option. If the majority vote for nobody (not the same as not voting), then the office doesnt get filled and a new election is held.
Though I guess that could be nation breaking for presidencies etc.
