Though it is true that the unemployment rate did not fall much, the people in the treatment group were reported to feel less stressed, depressed and made people generally happier.
So on one hand one goal people's wellbeing increased, however unemployment remained pretty much the same.

As to why the people in the treatment group had no differing results in regards to job prospects is still being studied

So you are punishing those that contribute?

It's a welfare state, which means that people agree to pay a little extra if it means people enjoying public assistance/services

The problem comes when no one wants to contribute as you can get the same pay just simply because you refuse to work

Well that was one of the premises of the experiment, just give money to people, even if they weren't pursuing a job. The only requirement to be randomly selected was that you were unemployed

So I pay taxes to pay myself $1000 and someone that doesn't work $1000

Well, I don't know much about Andrew Yang's project, but from what I do know of Finlands Universal Basic Income project is that it was limited to €560 a month. So as far as income is concerned, it really is basic. Furthermore the treatment group consisted of only 2000 people from a larger pool of unemployed people.
