you know, I just thought of an old political theory I heard years ago

I didn't really think much of it at the time

But now that I think about it it seems to explain a lot about the current political climate

basically the idea is that conservatives think humans used to be better in the past

and progressives think humans were shit in the past and are getting better over time

and I feel like this has actually accentuated over time

and in a way it explains a lot

alt-right types seem to consistently think things were much better in the past

in almost every single aspect of society

progressives are almost the exact opposite

they hate almost everything about the present, and they definitely hate everything about the past but they think things are getting better with societal change
