Most of human history serves as evidence that alcohol has never destroyed a society. It's a central aspect of European culture. Don't be selective of what aspects of European culture you support. You can't pick and choose what traditions you like, tradition is tradition.

2019-10-19 00:23:15 UTC

Alcohol is a European tradition.

2019-10-19 00:24:18 UTC

idk gin was like at like crack rock at one time

2019-10-19 00:24:28 UTC

you should 18 to drink

2019-10-19 00:24:46 UTC

why can't you pick and choose what traditions you like?

2019-10-19 00:24:49 UTC

just wondering

2019-10-19 00:24:50 UTC

you can fight and die you can have unlimited beer

2019-10-19 00:25:52 UTC

<:alex:401875510923100180> nothing wrong with give small amount of booze to kids on holidays

2019-10-19 00:26:01 UTC

Picking and choosing would be inauthentic i guess. (I pick and choose though lol)

2019-10-19 00:26:07 UTC

a beer or glass of wine aint killing no body

2019-10-19 00:26:11 UTC

why would it be inauthentic?

2019-10-19 00:26:14 UTC

2019-10-19 00:26:15 UTC

@Nerthulas Because you aren't a traditionalist at that point.

2019-10-19 00:26:18 UTC

Extinction Rebellion sounds like what happens when Aliens conquer the planet

2019-10-19 00:26:43 UTC

Edward Dutton calls them mutants

2019-10-19 00:27:29 UTC

You're destroying European tradition, and the European ecosystem. What will happen to the grape fields and hop yards when their produce goes unpicked?

2019-10-19 00:28:08 UTC

by that standard, how could either christians or pagans be traditionalist, considering that europe was at various points either christian or pagan

2019-10-19 00:28:20 UTC

either way you're going against 'tradition'

2019-10-19 00:28:45 UTC

And yet, regardless, they still drank booze.

2019-10-19 00:29:10 UTC

The beer gardens? The beer halls? Central gathering places, symbols of community, and trust. Oktoberfest?

2019-10-19 00:29:19 UTC

Church wine?

2019-10-19 00:29:58 UTC

its not as if there weren't temperate people, or people who advocated temperence at various times and places

2019-10-19 00:30:01 UTC

i rarely hear people speak of total and absolute prohibition

2019-10-19 00:30:13 UTC

or see them write

2019-10-19 00:30:19 UTC

I'm not even against alcohol, I just think you're unconvincing

2019-10-19 00:30:51 UTC

But there was rarely a definitive drinking age, and frankly, that was mostly Christians. Did pagan Europe ever advocate, or need prohibition?

2019-10-19 00:30:51 UTC

Its not as if having drinkable water everywhere is something new...

2019-10-19 00:32:43 UTC

there were certainly philosophers who were for moderation, and saw abuse of alcohol as immoral

2019-10-19 00:33:39 UTC

but the point is just kind of dumb

2019-10-19 00:34:01 UTC

That's not the same as advocating against alcohol, and most people would agree. It's not as if, without prohibition, we'd we'd all become hedonistic drunks.

2019-10-19 00:34:08 UTC

is believing that the earth is the center of the universe a 'traditionalist' position?

2019-10-19 00:34:11 UTC

no

2019-10-19 00:34:52 UTC

yes

2019-10-19 00:34:56 UTC

it's trad

2019-10-19 00:35:00 UTC

you're not trad

2019-10-19 00:35:18 UTC

The universe revolves around the earth

2019-10-19 00:35:21 UTC

Okay, fine, but it still annoys me that people like Varg would oppose alcohol. Like, what do they support other than mudhuts? What's distinctly European about the way they live?

2019-10-19 00:36:06 UTC

It's anti-European to advocate any sort of alcohol prohibition. There's a reason it took off the in the states and not here, for the same reason gun control took off here and not the states. Culture.

2019-10-19 00:36:37 UTC

"its anti-european to advocate any sort of alcohol prohibition"

2019-10-19 00:36:40 UTC

you lost me there
