@Eternal Entropy Moral Vanity is actually one of the factors which has resulted in the collapse of markets towards this paradigm. We've become trapped in a model of civilization where the subsidy of the growth of an underclass of consumer dependents is the key to power for the biggest elites in modern nations. Were it not for moral vanity, we would long ago have realized that such a class of dependents does only a disservice to our folk, and that we should endeavor to reduce their number over time, rather than offer unlimited charity to those incapable of challenging corruption and wickedness, swelling their ranks.
