Heard about a dad who tried to visit his daughter on his assigned day, wife barred him from seeing her, tried to shut the door on him, and he rightfully forced his way in, she sustained an injury, and he got a domestic violence charge, so now his daughter is basically begging not to be sent back to her mom, but the domestic violence charge on his rap sheet will forever prevent him from having full custody.

Divorce should result in custody defaulting to the primary breadwinner, outside instances of criminally demonstrable abuse. Also, no child support outside these instances.

I think children need both a father and mother figure and 50/50 seems ideal provided that both parents are able to fulfil the child's basic needs.

50/50 outside specific circumstances is actually kind of fucked up

exes will often use their children to get back at each other, and 50/50 custody makes it very difficult to fulfill obligations when operating over vast geographic distances

Imo I think it best emulates their prior homelife and makes it harder for one parent to manipulate the child into hating the other.

The reality for many, perhaps most divorced fathers though, is that 50/50 custody is not really 5050 in practice. Shared custody in reality is full custody for her, since most of the time you're working to support the lifestyle she's accustomed to or whatever, and the rest of the time the power is entirely in her hands, regardless of what the court ordered. The damage of parental separation all by itself is often grave in terms of the relationship with your kid, plus the mother has complete power over visitation even if the court orders otherwise, and she often widens that divide.
