stationary air is an amazing thermal insulator

2020-01-20 18:19:27 UTC

they look like this tho

2020-01-20 18:19:44 UTC

it takes a year or so

2020-01-20 18:19:44 UTC

nerth

2020-01-20 18:19:47 UTC

2020-01-20 18:19:47 UTC

that snow town

2020-01-20 18:19:48 UTC

where is that

2020-01-20 18:19:53 UTC

Italy

2020-01-20 18:19:59 UTC

they're giving away houses in that town

2020-01-20 18:19:59 UTC

yes but where

2020-01-20 18:20:01 UTC

its the town in the link

2020-01-20 18:20:03 UTC

2020-01-20 18:20:03 UTC

2020-01-20 18:20:06 UTC

southern italy

2020-01-20 18:20:09 UTC

Bisaccia

2020-01-20 18:20:17 UTC

i didnt know southern italy has snow like this

2020-01-20 18:20:23 UTC

campagnia

2020-01-20 18:20:36 UTC

a great yardstick for insulators is that in general, gasses insulate better then liquids which insulate better then solids

2020-01-20 18:20:47 UTC

they probably only give it to poor italian families

2020-01-20 18:20:59 UTC

you cant just go there as an amerimutt or snownword

2020-01-20 18:21:13 UTC

idk, a lot of times they want someone stable

2020-01-20 18:21:18 UTC

high insulating windows due so vis a vi gas injected between the glass panes

2020-01-20 18:21:34 UTC

glass is a cold insulator though, meaning its cold to the touch, less comfort

2020-01-20 18:21:46 UTC

wood is a hot insulator, more comfort

2020-01-20 18:21:52 UTC

brick is great too

@>Cytos, de lieve goede synth

okej, so can you insulate a building with double walls
filled with carbondioxide?

2020-01-20 18:22:31 UTC

afaik you'd need to be a citizen

2020-01-20 18:22:34 UTC

one of the reasons wood is a good insulator is because dry wood contains air, kept stationary by the wood fibre after drying

2020-01-20 18:22:36 UTC

and that takes like 9 years

2020-01-20 18:22:46 UTC

_if_ you get it

2020-01-20 18:22:47 UTC

lol

2020-01-20 18:23:12 UTC

the idea of keeping walls filled with gas might work for insulation sure, but i bet the energy you put in to get that working is going to outweigh the benefits

2020-01-20 18:23:28 UTC

i mean if there is any leak in the balloon you gotta refill constantly

2020-01-20 18:23:31 UTC

eh most places they make exceptions if you make some investment in the local community or bring a business etc
