I think the one of the reasons why sex is “good” which I’m guessing DarkMatter’s definition is pleasure has to be the fact that we are corporeal however still having needs and desires
I’m going to use the Thomist position on this
and one quote from him
"Wherefore the natural order requires that man should make use of these pleasures, in so far as they are necessary for man's well-being, as regards the preservation either of the individual or of the species."
Summa Theologaie
Lust propels us to fill our basic operation of reproducing
Remember, you cannot put sex in the same definition or category as pleasure
However you can easily blinded by lust
Aquinas noted this as the daughters of lust
This is known as the blindness of the mind
Where as “simple [act of] understanding, which apprehends some end as good… is hindered by lust.”
We know that having too much sex is bad
but people still engage in the act because it feels “good”
even though they don’t carry out the natural operation as intended by nature
to put it simply, God made it in this manner for us rational humans to carry out a necessary function for preservation
But it can be easily subverted to the point where sex becomes something else
Where it’s not even sex, it’s just pleasure
It’s not sinful to engage in these sexual pleasure as you are carrying out the necessary function as it intends to do (in marriage of course)
