Its 2:30 am for me
Night
What does Donatism have to do with Baptism? A quick googling doesn't immediately make that connection obvious
Goodnight
oh wait found a better source
Basically
A sacrament is valid if it's done trinitarian
Hence any trinitarian baptism is valid
And there is no need, nor should you be rebaptised
Its like converting to orthodoxy and getting remarried to your wife
I don't think all orthodox churches do it too
Seems like a quirk I'd have to do more reading into
But I'm not going to say no to the three dunks
There is no "rebaptism" because there are no sacraments outside the church
Historically trinitarian heretics were baptised and every other form of Christian is a trinitarian heretic because of filioque, Nestorianism, etc
Some are only chrismated through economy of a bishop and the chrismation is considered to give validity to their false baptism outside the church
It's not donatism, it's no sacraments outside the church
Sacraments aren't magic spells anyone can perform
Apostolic authority is required
And only clerics of the one holy catholic and apostolic church have this authority
Too bad that the Orthodox have apostolic authority too
What Elijah said.
Also, i did learn a week ago from an Orthodox priest that laymen can perform baptism, although chrismation can be performed only by the clergy.
It's something to be used in extreme cases only.
"too"
Only the holy orthodox church has apostolic authority

Isn't there something to do with the validity of baptism, though?
No
None of their sacraments are valid.
Not the argument I was making
The point I was asking about was isn't there a process of "rebaptism" when the validity of your baptism is called into question?
Remember goyim baptisms arent valid because some autist in the 21st century says the filioque is ebil because then he cant larp <:orthokike:291522285020512256>
"It is true that Christ's baptism is holy; and although it may exist among heretics or schismatics, yet it does not belong to the heresy or schism; and therefore even those who come from thence to the Catholic Church herself ought not to be baptized afresh"

@Daniil The Catholic Church also authorizes the laymen to baptize.
@Mozalbete ⳩ For the rebaptism of heretics, this is a dogma which last from the IInd Ecumenical Council. Thanks.
Not all orthodox churches rebaptise though
From my understanding
It's only the ROCOR while the OCA doesn't
Idk
Yup. The majority of Orthodox in countries which aren't do chrismation to Trinitarians considering the baptism as valid. But that was also said at the IInd Ecumenical Council. (Canon 7)
``` But Eunomians, who are baptized with only one immersion, and Montanists, who are here called Phrygians, and Sabellians, who teach the identity of Father and Son, and do sundry other mischievous things, and [the partisans of] all other heresies -- for there are many such here, particularly among those who come from the country of the Galatians: -- all these, when they desire to turn to orthodoxy, we receive as heathen. On the first day we make them Christians; on the second, catechumens; on the third, we exorcise them by breathing thrice in their face and ears; and thus we instruct them and oblige them to spend some time in the Church, and to hear the Scriptures; and then we baptize them. ```
from the last half of the first paragraph in canon 7
