Read up on it tbh

2018-11-10 08:28:24 UTC

There's a lot that could be said is faulty about catholic baptism compared to orthodox baptism

2018-11-10 08:28:38 UTC

But is it valid?

2018-11-10 08:28:41 UTC

That is the question.

2018-11-10 08:28:51 UTC

Protestant baptism is faulty

2018-11-10 08:28:54 UTC

But it is valid

2018-11-10 08:29:05 UTC

Trinitarian baptism is all that is required imo

2018-11-10 08:29:09 UTC

Anything else is donatism

2018-11-10 08:29:22 UTC

Anyway i gtg sleep

2018-11-10 08:29:28 UTC

Its 2:30 am for me

2018-11-10 08:29:30 UTC

Night

2018-11-10 08:29:49 UTC

What does Donatism have to do with Baptism? A quick googling doesn't immediately make that connection obvious

2018-11-10 08:29:51 UTC

Goodnight

2018-11-10 08:30:19 UTC

oh wait found a better source

2018-11-10 08:30:26 UTC

Basically

2018-11-10 08:30:36 UTC

A sacrament is valid if it's done trinitarian

2018-11-10 08:30:44 UTC

Hence any trinitarian baptism is valid

2018-11-10 08:30:56 UTC

And there is no need, nor should you be rebaptised

2018-11-10 08:31:07 UTC

Its like converting to orthodoxy and getting remarried to your wife

2018-11-10 08:31:17 UTC

I don't think all orthodox churches do it too

2018-11-10 08:32:29 UTC

Seems like a quirk I'd have to do more reading into

2018-11-10 08:32:58 UTC

But I'm not going to say no to the three dunks

2018-11-10 13:04:37 UTC

There is no "rebaptism" because there are no sacraments outside the church
Historically trinitarian heretics were baptised and every other form of Christian is a trinitarian heretic because of filioque, Nestorianism, etc
Some are only chrismated through economy of a bishop and the chrismation is considered to give validity to their false baptism outside the church

2018-11-10 13:04:57 UTC

It's not donatism, it's no sacraments outside the church

2018-11-10 13:05:50 UTC

Sacraments aren't magic spells anyone can perform
Apostolic authority is required
And only clerics of the one holy catholic and apostolic church have this authority

2018-11-10 13:05:56 UTC
2018-11-10 13:21:18 UTC

Too bad that the Orthodox have apostolic authority too

2018-11-10 13:29:37 UTC

What Elijah said.
Also, i did learn a week ago from an Orthodox priest that laymen can perform baptism, although chrismation can be performed only by the clergy.
It's something to be used in extreme cases only.

2018-11-10 13:36:37 UTC

"too"
Only the holy orthodox church has apostolic authority

2018-11-10 14:12:35 UTC

Orthodox are just prots who wanted a cool name.

2018-11-10 14:22:18 UTC

^ Kek'd

2018-11-10 14:22:31 UTC

Isn't there something to do with the validity of baptism, though?

2018-11-10 14:26:44 UTC

No

2018-11-10 14:26:53 UTC

None of their sacraments are valid.

2018-11-10 14:58:37 UTC

Not the argument I was making

2018-11-10 14:59:05 UTC

The point I was asking about was isn't there a process of "rebaptism" when the validity of your baptism is called into question?

2018-11-10 15:05:48 UTC

Remember goyim baptisms arent valid because some autist in the 21st century says the filioque is ebil because then he cant larp <:orthokike:291522285020512256>

"It is true that Christ's baptism is holy; and although it may exist among heretics or schismatics, yet it does not belong to the heresy or schism; and therefore even those who come from thence to the Catholic Church herself ought not to be baptized afresh"
