Nothing wrong with self flagellation if done under a spiritual director
The time I could spend doing that could be spent in scripture or the fathers or prayer or confession, etc.
Big shoutout to our brothers in Sweden with Helige Ericโs Legion
It is a form of prayer and itโs not mutually exclusive to reading scripture or the fathers, thereโs enough time in our lives for it all
@GodFearingEnglishman It would seem Bishop Byrne is moving on to Newcastle.
"On Monday, 4 February, Pope Francis announced that Bishop Byrne would serve as the fourteenth Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle."
He's getting an actual diocese now. Totally un-oratorian.
Who's Bishop Byrne?
I had a girlfriend once with the surname Byrne but she was a Protestant
And her dad was a Protestant pastor
It's a very popular name.
Not in burgerland
It's Irish, so it would be very popular in New York, Chicago, and Boston.
Irish? Thank God she didn't stay my girl
Jk what I dislike is the Protestantism
I'll take a girl of any race, so long as she's Catholic and cute.

Other slavs are honorary humans
A Serbian girl has caught my eye but I still need to actually meet her and her parents
Went to an Orthodox parish yesterday for 1st time, very different from the Southern Baptist church id been going to. Different in a good way.
@DoNotXD Are you a catechumen?
I have heard that term before but unfamiliar with it.
It means that you are actively learning about the Church in the church
Are you someone being taught before formal acceptance?
Then as of now, not yet.
I have only visited once, but it was a good visit, my wife also agreed.

Okay, good for you then
I hope you will continue to look into things
The worship of God in the Orthodox Church is modeled with influence of the worship from the times of the Jewish Temple period of the Old Testament
interesting, thanks.
@DoNotXD I'm a Pentecostal, also not a catechumen yet but exploring Orthodoxy
At this point I'm pretty convinced it's the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church
I'm in the same boat. Grown up a baptist and generally low church protestant, but went to a Serbian-Orthodox liturgy a few weeks ago, and still considering asking about how they handle catechumen, even if I don't speak a word serbian.
Hopefully, they'll accept you. If not, you can always try the Eastern Catholics. We aren't the evil uniates the Russians would have you believe. ๐
