Yeah. Gimme a sec

"We have also examined the synodal letter of Sophronius of holy memory, some time Patriarch of the Holy City of Christ our God, Jerusalem, and have found it in accordance with the true faith and with the Apostolic teachings, and with those of the holy approved Fathers. Therefore we have received it as orthodox and as salutary to the holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, and have decreed that it is right that his name be inserted in the diptychs of the Holy Churches."

Session XIII - Extracts from the Acts

2019-04-05 06:18:53 UTC

And what is the relevant content of the letter?

2019-04-05 06:20:26 UTC

The whole letter pretty much, but I'll give some highlights. Gimme another sec

2019-04-05 06:21:26 UTC

Just for reference:

2019-04-05 06:23:03 UTC

Oof, couldn't upload PDF

2019-04-05 06:26:23 UTC

Tbh though, I wish I had a text PDF of this. The energy-essence distinction is everywhere--all over the letter

2019-04-05 06:26:48 UTC

I have another spot in the council though too

2019-04-05 06:27:21 UTC

And now, what is the fragment there that is supposedly rejected by catholicism?

2019-04-05 06:29:31 UTC

That is just talking about how Christ is fully God and fully human

2019-04-05 06:29:46 UTC

The energy-essence distinction is right in there

2019-04-05 06:29:57 UTC

"activities" is "energeias"

2019-04-05 06:29:58 UTC

you can call it however you want

2019-04-05 06:30:05 UTC

?

2019-04-05 06:30:09 UTC

I can call it what it is

2019-04-05 06:30:15 UTC

And nothing else

2019-04-05 06:30:29 UTC

I will only call it the energy-essence distinction because that is what it is

2019-04-05 06:30:32 UTC

No more, no less.

2019-04-05 06:30:33 UTC

It says that Christ does things according to divine nature, and according to huan nature

2019-04-05 06:30:53 UTC

Did you not read the parts about energy and activities and their distinction?

2019-04-05 06:31:34 UTC

That is the context, that all activities, no matter form what nature, come form Christ

2019-04-05 06:32:25 UTC

It's an opposition to nestorians

2019-04-05 06:32:41 UTC

Nestorians?

2019-04-05 06:32:49 UTC

Do you know anything about the sixth council?

2019-04-05 06:33:04 UTC

he even cites "the foul effluence of Nestorius" right in the text you gave me

2019-04-05 06:33:20 UTC

Because itis a christological profession

2019-04-05 06:33:51 UTC

Yeah, but he overall section is against Monothelitists. That's the point of the chapter

2019-04-05 06:34:17 UTC

Sure, it's against Nestorians too, but generally speaking against Monothelitists

2019-04-05 06:34:54 UTC

Give 11 a thorough read. He's so clear about the energy-essence distinction

2019-04-05 06:35:25 UTC

I don't really see anything special in that text, and truly nothing that goes against anything in catholicism. God has two natures , and even though Christ's activities may belong to one or other nature, they are both of Christ

2019-04-05 06:35:39 UTC

"The difference of the essence is always understood from the difference of the activities."

2019-04-05 06:36:05 UTC

That is what I already have summarised

2019-04-05 06:36:16 UTC

That's literally the energy-essence distinction

2019-04-05 06:36:24 UTC

Which you so firmly argue against
