I can't recommend on the Bible because I am in the slow process of reading it. And I can't say much about the Fathers, but I recommend the Christian apology against jews and pagans, that is, the things that ultimately converted people to Christianity. Many of the modern "arguments against Christianity", such as attempts to dismiss prophecies of Christ, are cheap rehash of the attacks by said jews and pagans
So for example we have this, which is also fun to read http://newadvent.org/fathers/0503.htm
"I'm in the slow process of reading it."
Hah, yeah, you and me both.
Alright, thank you.
New Advent is a great font of knowledge.
Many times I use the resource I posted in the resource channel, which is the content of newadvent, crawled and in txt format
Since I can use some console command to find occurrences of some text in all of the writings
So if I want to show someone the stance on divorce, abortion, etc, I can easily find the occurrences
I mean, who wouldn't read something that starts with " Now, then, incline your ear to me, and hear my words, and give heed, you Jew"
I was going through some of the refutations of Arius the other day as a matter of fact.
New Advent is a good companion at a quiet desk job.
Pretty scathing some of these early church fathers.
It truly is, I do the same when work is light. You start to realise all the arguments from heretics, fedoras, jews, muslims, etc. were already addressed a long time ago
Yeah, I was already pretty on board with the le edgy trad mindset before I became a Catholic, but the more I read, the more confident I are that we're right.
One for you, actually.
Would highly recommend Fr. Anthony Cekada's books "The problems with prayer in the new mass" and "the work of human hands"
The guy himself is a Gertrude the Great basket case who does make some outlandish claims of invalidity here and there, but those two books are spot on and quite damning of the Novus Ordo Missae.
👌
I like some invalidity claims here and there, they keep some people in check
Not the sort that are completely unfounded, though.
He made one about some specific prayers at one point or another in the last couple of decades simply because they came into the limelight post-VII, but it was quite knee-jerk.
If I, as a Catholic of only 1 year this weekend, can turn around and say "Nigga, what?" to somebody's claims that's when I take it to be a problem..
I can't quite recall the details of the case I'm referring to, I'll have to look back into it.
