You could as well complain that the creed exists, saying "don't mess around with Scripture". The purpose of the Creed is to combat heresies, which is why some minor things are explicitely added to combat further heresies

2019-07-22 20:34:30 UTC

Which is why the orthodox also use a version with additions

2019-07-22 20:35:38 UTC

Literally had to agree with filioque to avoid further heresies

2019-07-22 20:37:14 UTC

which were

2019-07-22 20:37:56 UTC

Most threatening, Theodoret’s teachings

2019-07-22 20:38:36 UTC

Which again, were condemned in Constantinople II

2019-07-22 20:41:00 UTC

i meant the filioqie

2019-07-22 20:41:07 UTC

what was it used to combat

2019-07-22 20:41:30 UTC

The idea that the Holy Spirit does not come from the Son, so that the Spirit of Christ is a different one from the Spirit of the Father

2019-07-22 20:41:31 UTC

Things like this:

2019-07-22 20:41:39 UTC

_ Against IX. ... We shall confess that the Spirit of the Son was His own if he spoke of it as of the same nature and proceeding from the Father, and shall accept the expression as consistent with true piety. But if he speaks of the Spirit as being of the Son, or as having its origin through the Son we shall reject this statement as blasphemous and impious. For we believe the Lord when He says, "The spirit which proceedeth from the Father_

2019-07-22 20:42:42 UTC

That in turn gave way to the 13th anathema

2019-07-22 20:42:48 UTC

_ If anyone defends the heretical writings of Theodoret which were composed against the true faith, against the first holy synod of Ephesus and against holy Cyril and his Twelve Chapters, and also defends what Theodoret wrote to support the heretical Theodore and Nestorius and others who think in the same way as the aforesaid Theodore and Nestorius and accept them or their heresy and if anyone, because of them, shall accuse of being heretical the doctors of the church who have stated their belief in the union according to subsistence of God the Word; and if anyone does not anathematize these heretical books and those who have thought or now think in this way, and all those who have written against the true faith or against holy Cyril and his twelve chapters, and who persist in such heresy until they die: let him be anathema._

2019-07-22 20:47:19 UTC

this is constantinople II?

2019-07-22 20:48:04 UTC

Second thing he quoted is

2019-07-22 20:49:56 UTC

right

2019-07-22 20:50:08 UTC

so why wasnt filioque added then and there

2019-07-22 20:50:31 UTC

For the same reason that the whole second part of the Creed wasn't added until the second council

2019-07-22 20:50:38 UTC

Because those parts are explicitely added as needed

2019-07-22 20:51:06 UTC

my question was about filioque and why it was needed

2019-07-22 20:51:27 UTC

Tell me, why is the Creed needed?

2019-07-22 20:52:10 UTC

to combat heresies, such as arianism

2019-07-22 20:52:22 UTC

Then for the same

2019-07-22 20:52:29 UTC

which heresy

2019-07-22 20:52:44 UTC

The heresy that the Holy Spirit does not proceed from the Son

2019-07-22 20:53:20 UTC

The heresy that Theodore and Theodoret professed

2019-07-22 20:53:21 UTC

lmao

2019-07-22 20:53:29 UTC

In case you don't notice

2019-07-22 20:53:35 UTC

The first quote is Theodoret against the 9th anathema

2019-07-22 20:53:36 UTC

those were dealt with in con II

2019-07-22 20:53:49 UTC

both theos

2019-07-22 20:53:58 UTC

"Arianism" is just a fancy name for the heresy that the Son is not co-essential with the Father

2019-07-22 20:54:01 UTC

Yeah, marking non Filioque as heresy

2019-07-22 20:54:34 UTC

You agree with it even if you don’t add it to the creed

2019-07-22 20:54:43 UTC

If you didn’t it’d be heresy

2019-07-22 20:54:48 UTC

By all standards

2019-07-22 20:54:54 UTC

Both orthodox and catholic

2019-07-22 20:55:10 UTC

then why wasnt it added to the creed then and there

2019-07-22 20:55:27 UTC

Because of that mistranslation of the word faith in greek

2019-07-22 20:55:47 UTC

I swear, nigger, the petty excuses that you try to give to say something is not legitimate

2019-07-22 20:55:52 UTC

Do you know why they didn't?
