where you overturn the councils

2019-07-22 20:10:21 UTC

like the one at rome

2019-07-22 20:10:37 UTC

Lmao please point me to the ecumenical councils that are overturned

2019-07-22 20:10:40 UTC

I could also say

2019-07-22 20:11:33 UTC

Since the councils you accept state that the HS proceeds from the Father, and the Father and the Son are one and share the same essence, then your denial of the Filioque is trying to overturn the council of Nicea

2019-07-22 20:12:10 UTC

And Constantinople II*

2019-07-22 20:12:34 UTC

Specifically the 13th Anathema of St. Cyril of Alexandria

2019-07-22 20:16:29 UTC

except the creed from the council of nicea doesnt have that clause

2019-07-22 20:17:34 UTC

the hoop jumping continues

2019-07-22 20:17:56 UTC

Ah, so you deny that the Father and the Son are one in essence, so that what is said of one is also said of the other, or that what is understood of the Father is understood of the Son

2019-07-22 20:22:19 UTC

by your amazing logic, so did everyone at the council of nicea

2019-07-22 20:22:39 UTC

What about Constantinople II?

2019-07-22 20:22:48 UTC

Theodoret’s teachings were condemned

2019-07-22 20:23:03 UTC

He professed what you believe about the HS

2019-07-22 20:23:17 UTC

Is that also just mental gymnastics?

2019-07-22 20:24:44 UTC

It is just an example of how you shouldn't just go around claiming how people "overturn councils". If we have any council declared as ecumenical that contradicts another such council, say so, and point to the specific canons

2019-07-22 20:30:27 UTC

what i believe about the Holy Spirit is what is professed through the nicene creed

2019-07-22 20:31:12 UTC

Was Constantinople II not Orthodox?

2019-07-22 20:31:25 UTC

I don't know if you noticed, but

2019-07-22 20:31:37 UTC

The Creed isn't supposed to be the entire Christian doctrine in a couple sentenes

2019-07-22 20:31:37 UTC

I'm late as hell to the party but that sounds awful, marrying someone and you can't get any kids out of them

2019-07-22 20:31:43 UTC

feed her to the lions

2019-07-22 20:31:52 UTC

Also, what you say is false, because the orthodox use the nicene-constantinopolitan creed

2019-07-22 20:31:55 UTC

at least make that the ultimatum smh

2019-07-22 20:32:13 UTC

Also, Council of Nicea translates to additions to the faith, not creed

2019-07-22 20:32:42 UTC

πίστιν

2019-07-22 20:32:46 UTC

```The Creed isn't supposed to be the entire Christian doctrine in a couple sentenes```
so dont go around fucking with it lmao
2019-07-22 20:32:46 UTC
Pistin
2019-07-22 20:33:03 UTC
What changes it is denying what is implicit in it
2019-07-22 20:33:12 UTC
Because that rivals with the faith of the Creed
2019-07-22 20:33:30 UTC
filioque is 👌
2019-07-22 20:33:42 UTC
still hasn’t addressed Constantinople II
2019-07-22 20:33:49 UTC
Guess Theodoret was an ok dude
2019-07-22 20:33:56 UTC
You could as well complain that the creed exists, saying "don't mess around with Scripture". The purpose of the Creed is to combat heresies, which is why some minor things are explicitely added to combat further heresies
2019-07-22 20:34:30 UTC
Which is why the orthodox also use a version with additions
2019-07-22 20:35:38 UTC
Literally had to agree with filioque to avoid further heresies
2019-07-22 20:37:14 UTC
which were
2019-07-22 20:37:56 UTC
Most threatening, Theodoret’s teachings
2019-07-22 20:38:36 UTC
Which again, were condemned in Constantinople II
2019-07-22 20:41:00 UTC
i meant the filioqie
2019-07-22 20:41:07 UTC
what was it used to combat
