I'm waiting for zen2 to replace my Ryzen 7 1700
thing is for all we know the zen2 could be mere 5-15% boost
or 50-60%
yeah
I'm only going to upgrade if the core-count increases
i wonder if i shoot AYMD mail would they tell me release date for the new stuff
:D (doubt)
aaaaah fuck it
il buy these pieces of shits
curse after year or half that the new 3000 series is so much better
but 2700X alone will make my stuff 3X faster on ansys and renders
keeping up with the relentless advancement of technology is near impossible
it's a matter of "here and now" when it comes to price/perf
@porco I'm really torn between the Linksys LRT214-EU and the Zyxel Firewall VPN2S.
Major difference between them is that Linksys seems to be relatively slow with OpenVPN, which I think about using.
What do you prefer, OpenVPN or IPSec?
If you want to use openvpn, then openvpn?
I'd probably go for IPSec but since you're buying for a small company, I'd suggest OpenVPN
The question is, would I really gain something by using ovpn as opposed to IPSec? The upstream of their ISP connection is fairly limited, so I wanna make it as "lean" as possible
OpenVPN is easier to understand and configure
64/128 c/t
New Epyc gen is rumored to be 64c / socket
Yes
epyc isn't mainstream though
No but nothing (except the pricing maybe) stops you from building an EPYC desktop
most software not benefitting from it is quite big block tho
aka "sanity" "do i get anything from this"
i would say that prevents using epyc on most systems
AMD says they're datacenter cpus
doesn't dictate what you end up doing with it, though
yeah people used Xeons for gaming due ??? they didnt care for electricity or anything else really
the low clock count makes it unappealing to me
Xeons maybe for more PCIe lanes?
I think the enthusiast have 40 as well
I doubt ECC makes a difference for gaming
I used a Xeon desktop from July 2012 to November 2018
Yes ecc makes a different for gaming, it makes gaming slower
I have a Xeon E3 in my homeserver
it's p nice
Ecc is not about perf, it's about stability
I would not run a server or video/audio rendering without it
