2019-02-03 18:15:54 UTC

2019-02-03 18:16:23 UTC

I'm waiting for zen2 to replace my Ryzen 7 1700

2019-02-03 18:16:59 UTC

thing is for all we know the zen2 could be mere 5-15% boost

2019-02-03 18:17:03 UTC

or 50-60%

2019-02-03 18:17:12 UTC

yeah

2019-02-03 18:17:19 UTC

I'm only going to upgrade if the core-count increases

2019-02-03 18:17:33 UTC

2019-02-03 18:17:43 UTC

2019-02-03 18:36:46 UTC

2019-02-03 18:37:17 UTC

but 2700X alone will make my stuff 3X faster on ansys and renders

2019-02-03 18:58:34 UTC

keeping up with the relentless advancement of technology is near impossible

2019-02-03 18:58:55 UTC

it's a matter of "here and now" when it comes to price/perf

2019-02-04 07:00:10 UTC

@porco I'm really torn between the Linksys LRT214-EU and the Zyxel Firewall VPN2S.
Major difference between them is that Linksys seems to be relatively slow with OpenVPN, which I think about using.
What do you prefer, OpenVPN or IPSec?

2019-02-04 07:06:04 UTC

If you want to use openvpn, then openvpn?

2019-02-04 07:07:29 UTC

I'd probably go for IPSec but since you're buying for a small company, I'd suggest OpenVPN

2019-02-04 07:10:16 UTC

The question is, would I really gain something by using ovpn as opposed to IPSec? The upstream of their ISP connection is fairly limited, so I wanna make it as "lean" as possible

2019-02-04 09:52:22 UTC

OpenVPN is easier to understand and configure

2019-02-04 11:25:03 UTC

d r @porco 16c rumoured for zen2

2019-02-04 12:18:52 UTC

New Epyc gen is rumored to be 64c / socket

2019-02-04 12:36:56 UTC

Yes

2019-02-04 12:39:35 UTC

epyc isn't mainstream though

2019-02-04 12:47:30 UTC

No but nothing (except the pricing maybe) stops you from building an EPYC desktop

2019-02-04 12:48:03 UTC

most software not benefitting from it is quite big block tho

2019-02-04 12:48:07 UTC

aka "sanity" "do i get anything from this"

2019-02-04 12:49:24 UTC

i would say that prevents using epyc on most systems

2019-02-04 12:49:28 UTC

AMD says they're datacenter cpus

2019-02-04 12:49:40 UTC

doesn't dictate what you end up doing with it, though

2019-02-04 12:50:12 UTC
