question would be if multiple boxes larger cost of footprint but cheaper total price be worth it

k8s makes you allocate "microcores". Basically 1/1000 of a core

so you could have each vm have 500 microcores

well here we have 800 W (+800 W redundancy) for a system with 64 Cores. AMD is competitive in Watt/Core

with one license covering up to 5 nodes

the bottleneck here is that you pay the license for storage, the license includes 25 TB storage

Let's say you commit all 5 nodes to 100% (without overcommitting), you would have up to 1280 VPS / Virtuozzo license

but you can only allocate 20 GB / VPS
