also TW is nice, good for a short visit and seems like a comfy place to live (taipei at least)
@rika yeah I'm here. No problems on vpn, although it's always hit or miss.
@rika I'm here until at least March 2018. When my lady and I can abandon this hell hole
lmao I live in japan and all I see are Chinese
but now we've got some more Koreans so we got that going
they aren't too bad tbh
there are just to omany of them
```At times my university looks more like Hong Kong than Scotland.
It's a fucked up situation that Western unis are turning into 3rd/4th year STEM degree mills for Chinese students that don't integrate with any of the social life, walk around in packs, do the bare minimum of interaction with locals, are academically crap and are hugely overrepresented in cheating.
This might seem an awful thing to say if you have not experienced this first hand but it's very real. This is primarily a problem for engineering students.
Some of my classes in 3rd year were literal Chinese majority.
When it came to things like presentations their English skills were so poor they had to limp through them and then they somehow all get reasonable grades (B equivalents). It was one grading scheme for the Chinese students and another for all the UK or EU students.
I'm often expected to be a translator in group reports because most of my team is non-native English speaking. I had a huge group project with a 60+ page write-up and my team was two Chinese students, a French student, a dyslexic student and me. I had to spend hours just making it grammatically correct and then countless hours making it flow.
God I hate what is happening to my university.```
Universities haven't been fucking good since the early 1900s
chinky students aren't even that bad
hong kongers, singaporks and taiwanese especially
mainlanders though
pretty bro tier at least the ones I've met
from what I've seen, the mainlander stereotype does hold true
the one mainland kid in my class was caught cheating twice
and just yanks shit out of his mate's hand
yea cheating happens
most of them just pay crazy amounts of money and they get an easy ride through western unis
meanwhile if you're a poorfag in Scotland/germany/ireland or whatever you need to grind up your grades
but after they finish uni, most of them go back to china anyway <:thonk:288060975775612929>
It's so true about he said they operate. My uni was biggest in state to foreign students, the biggest being China, and they never even tried to make friends with locals, or even barely ate local food. Speak bare minimum of English, do bare minimum of work, cheat, only speak Chinese, stay in their dorms, and then fuck off back to China after getting their degree so they can work a 6000 RMB a month job
Where the other students from Africa or India etc speka great English and do their best to try new things and make friends with locals
I've never understood how someone could study abroad from China and then ever want to go back to China ? After seeing the first world I would make it my duty to never return to this shit hole
Chinese are infectious . They make up a big portion of world population and ruin anything they touch or anywhere they go. Why is that
I'm not even being racist .
I had better experience with chinese students on visa
The guys I met were pretty fucking smart though
Once you go to the lower level unis, the ones easier to get into, then you'll hear stories about the cheating
My understanding of them going back to China is to take care of the family and/or run the family business
Something about the mainland culture where cheating isn't punished is how it gets all topsy
id agree with you, these chinese kids can math style on you all day
they just drill drill drill their whole life, so they are well good at math, and can do any one skill very intensive like coding etc.
but logic and problem solving is non existent
there's a greater screening processing among the better universities
well, of course
I went to a tier 2 in the US and for the most part they were better
it was when I went back home and saw those on the EB-5 non student visa ones
which made me doubt their overall ability
they are very good at a few small things, and can do those very well effectivelly - how else could rip offs come on ali express within a few days?
