'First, I love this book. I'd give it four stars are because of the typos but little else is truly wrong with it and I don't want to tarnish your first review with a four. Baked, fam, shill this book hard. Get Stix to read it, Joe Rogan, Bunty, Sargon, heck give a copy to Jordan Peterson and John Pageau. Both JP's would love the symbolic undertones that riddle this book. Do that and many *e*s will be had.

Second, real talk. This needs to be an anime, like, tomorrow. I remember the true parallels to this book and had many of the emotional hangups myself. As a Christian, the occult stuff made me feel off but if you look at it as it lays out in this book it takes the guilt out of talking about it. Learning to meme is like learning history, reading the Bible or taking a self-defense class. These are the formes of knowledge you must utilize when the world swings too far into Ridged Order or Destructive Chaos.

The title quote comes from Kesey's "Cuckoo's Nest". Our narrator, the Big Chief, is the most ardent observer of the crazy environment he's been placed into. His own perceptions often distort the reality intentionally for a plethora of reasons that serve only him and his understanding. When a group turns boring he sees the room fill with smoke. And he tells the reader "they" - the hospital staff - have turned the smoke machines on again. And even though he spent many years as a quiet observer, a catalyst will bring him out of his bystander role and make him a crucial cog in the machinery of change in the institution.

And thats how Baked's story seems to go. He drifted. He went through the motions. But in the background the imagination just slightly altered reality to make it more enjoyable to himself. So when I read this it reminded me of being told the story of the crazy house through the eyes of the Big Chief from Ken Kesey's "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". Baked introduces the catalyst immediately. After all, anything before this is unimportant to this story. And almost accidentally he becomes the protagonist of his own tale. Normally this conveys a sense of over-warranted self-importance. He's avoided that entirely by minimizing his role in the entire affair. Its a smart move. Otherwise the story would've been unreadable.To write in the 1st person and make yourself a hero comes off as pretentious normally. But he does it in humor and with reluctance. Rather than be a braggart he takes the complete opposite angle. And it works.

One review has this as "Fight Club + The Matrix". I think thats a good analogy and summation. Furthermore, I'm not sure if I can do any better. So credit to that SP'er. But had Baked set out to tell the story straight forward like standard nonfiction it would've been nothing more than a 500 word article in a Sunday featured section of old world media. This style ensures that the audience knows that Baked sees the world a little different and was greatly impacted by the new subculture he found. Again, it reminds me of "Cuckoo's Nest". Kesey dedicated the book to Vik Lovell with the quote "who told me dragons did not exist, then led me to their lairs." The people that cross paths with Baked do not exist. But I he can show you where to find them.

For the normie a note of caution - but not a warning intended to dissuade the prospective reader - this book can really be appreciated if you understand the world in which it takes place. If you arent familiar with that world, get familiar with it. If it is a place you once called home, then welcome back. Your brethren have morphed while you've been away. And they are close to achieving their final form. In the meantime, and regardless of it you are a newcomer or an oldgaf, you too can help shape the world with magic.

If all you have heard about Baked Alaska is that he's been justifiably banned from humanity you've likely surrounded yourself with the intolerant filth that deal only in half-truths and double-speak. Become a contrarian. Do it now before you find a reason to question it. You'll lose the constant and guaranteed dopamine shot of conformation bias. But you'll be able to think for yourself. And most of all, you'll receive x-ray vision. The double-speakers who convince you that their racism is "anti-racism", that submission to authority and surrendering of rights is "freedom", will be laid bare in their eternal ugliness. It just takes a little bit of magic.
