That reminds me of hearing that the Kinsey study is almost completely bullshit because it relied almost completely, if not completely, on self selected respondents.

2019-10-16 23:59:21 UTC

@McFansy the problem I have with that is how else you would find that kind of information? do you void any study trying to find information about a group experience or something?

2019-10-17 00:02:37 UTC

@Legalize is that true? he was in favour or sex reassignment surgery but not literally how we define gender?

2019-10-17 00:04:13 UTC

you're making a lot of claims on a topic you know nothing about

@Fondboy You know that there are serious disadvantages to using self-reported data right? Why does it always seem like that data matches up with what the sociologist is looking for?

2019-10-17 00:25:21 UTC

I don't even know if that is true or you just don't like the results

2019-10-17 00:27:37 UTC

Disadvantages of Self-Report Data
Collecting information through a self-report, however, has its limitations. People are often biased when they report on their own experiences. For example, many individuals are either consciously or unconsciously influenced by "social desirability," that is, they are more likely to report experiences that are considered to be socially acceptable or preferred.

Self-reports are subject to these biases and limitations:

Honesty: Subjects may make the more socially acceptable answer rather than being truthful.
Introspective Ability: The subjects may not be able to assess themselves accurately.
Interpretation of the questions: The wording of the questions may be confusing or have different meanings to different subjects.
Rating Scales: Rating something yes or no can be too restrictive, but numerical scales also can be inexact and subject to individual inclination to give an extreme or middle response to all questions.
Response Bias: Questions are subject to all of the biases of what the previous responses were, whether they relate to a recent or significant experience and other factors.
Sampling Bias: The people who complete the questionnaire are the sort of people who will complete a questionnaire. Are they representative of the population you wish to study?

@Fondboy Did you even bother to read any of that study you linked last week?

2019-10-17 00:30:37 UTC

the entire reason I cited it was because it was the ONLY study on that topic any YOU had an opinion without any backing

2019-10-17 00:33:03 UTC

Your scientific backing for your conclusion was flawed. Everyone who has watched an Olympics should know by now that men and women compete at a different level. You have to prove that a mtf would be the same as a real female

2019-10-17 00:55:40 UTC

I've never used Discord before. Will we be able to listen to the show through the server?

2019-10-17 00:56:14 UTC

Before I ask a bunch of questions, is there a FAQ that I should read?

2019-10-17 00:57:15 UTC

I had questions like how to know if you're cleared to talk to them, etc.

2019-10-17 00:57:54 UTC

2019-10-17 00:57:54 UTC

Okay

2019-10-17 00:58:55 UTC

Thanks again

2019-10-17 01:00:31 UTC

2019-10-17 01:04:24 UTC
