interviews are also shaky at best, but that's why i liberally used the "90 day probation programs" as a manager (back before i retired). HR departments hate you letting people go during probation because they"aren't a fit" or without providing retraining, etc to people before releasing them
interviews can certainly get rid of truly bad candidates, but at a professional level job if you can't pretend to be competent for an hour, you have to be truly bad
Oh most definitely. Interviews with unknown candidates are very hit and miss. In my case, we have a new Manager making process and procedures changes without knowing our job, nor our company (granted we do things a bit backwards which is retarded) and he's sinking our ship.
I've only ever been fired once in my career, and that was at Costco. Why? Because I challenged my Manager over a lot of bad decisions he made, and I tried making certain functions of my duties more efficient. I also did not get along well with several people, and one in particular who I knew from High-School. Regardless, I felt all alone working there. It was as if everyone was putting on a "fake" smile and not being true to themselves. My experience felt fake at the shop I worked at, and I would have quit not long after regardless.
that's all businesses, skilled leadership is hard to come by and to expensive when it does. Also employees seldom know the big picture and managers seldom know the details. Then managers who take on most of the risk are often very nervous about delegating. A good rule of thumb is if someone can accomplish a task at least 70% as well as you can, delegate it and move on
