I think it's acceptable to point the gun at them if you MAY have to shoot. It's not unreasonable to be prepared for the guy trying to break into your home to pull a weapon.

That reminds me of the story a few years after animal cloning was a thing about some guy in China or somewhere around there that claimed to have cloned the first human, but that story never went anywhere, as far as I know.
