serious question: did you guys thing the electoral college was a good idea before mid2016?
@Fondboy to get rid of the electoral college would severely put you on a path to majority tyranny. Unless you also changes your entire election system to something like the Donthe method of plurality election. You will end up in a situation were the majority rule over others like the EU. E.g my country together with the 16 smallest EU members have the same voting power as germany. Germany+France+Italy or Germany+France+Poland can control all legislation.
There is no respect for our danish culture or way of doing things. We have been mandated to put copyright on news because thats what the donin germany, so that must all countries do.
@Just for youtube [NB1] I wasn't into politics at that point, @Salacious Swanky Cat im not sure
The infamous article 11
But you heard of the electoral college before 2016 @Fondboy
from school and things
democrats were fine with the electoral college when clinton won with a minority of votes
I think it always seemed a little overcomplicated to me, but I never paid enough attention to politics to really think about it that hard
it's a very weird system, I get the motives behind it, the execution could be better
but I'm coming at this from Australian perspective which is very different
I have more of an issue with how the DNC do their primaries than the EC though
They now want us to to make a law mandated minimum wage, screwing our free market of wages negotiated by unions and employers
It's not complicated when you read the writings of the founders
^
we were a republic of states
states elect presidents
I’ve always had an understanding of why the electoral college was necessary, but I wasn’t sure how the number was calculated
I always understood the reason for it but kinda felt like there must be a better way to do it, but could definitely never think of a way to ever do it better
its simply your number of representatives and senators in washington
@Just for youtube [NB1] I didn't am Canadian
oh gotcha
The number of votes in the EC is based on the centennial census iirc
on the state level it could be better organised
I think the 50 states deciding it is right
representatives are spread out according to population
Matt's last video about the EC was really good at explaining it
popular vote however is just retarded and isn't used almost at all is for a reason
every state gets at least one representative
the electoral college will go away
just like senators not being popularly elected went away
the left is the only side that takes ground
the right never takes any ground
they just resist for a little while until they cave
what is wrong with Canadas system for example, We elect people in our district for a seat in the house and then how ever gets the most seats that parties front runner becomes prime minister
parliamentary systems are just as much a mess as our republic
this entire area would NEVER be represented because there's so few people here http://bit.ly/2nYA6T3
he goes over that in the vieo
video
states already don't get represented
just have every person vote "equal under the law"
then pick someone that way
no
not your country
