that the Federal Government hires a fuckton of people doesnt really negate the consolidation of power since the country was formed

2019-07-21 00:24:39 UTC

But the president. The supposed leader of the federal government seems to be almost powerless to actually get anything done

2019-07-21 00:24:57 UTC

Isn't that weird?

2019-07-21 00:25:09 UTC

that's not really true either

2019-07-21 00:25:10 UTC

Its the system working as intended.

2019-07-21 00:25:22 UTC

The president doesn’t make the laws.

2019-07-21 00:25:23 UTC

@Nucleonso its good?

2019-07-21 00:26:07 UTC

Is it true or not?

2019-07-21 00:26:23 UTC

We have no wall from trump

2019-07-21 00:26:33 UTC

There are checks and balances, but how much power comparatively to those checks and balances should he have?

2019-07-21 00:26:36 UTC

We didn't get universal healthcare from obama

2019-07-21 00:27:01 UTC

The president is the enforcer of laws and a figurehead for the nation. His job never was to “get things done” but its made to be such a big deal because its just one person compared to hundreds of reps & senators.

2019-07-21 00:27:11 UTC

Is the system supposed to ruin all attempts at change?

2019-07-21 00:27:33 UTC

yes, the system is supposed to avoid change

2019-07-21 00:27:40 UTC

The system was meant to put Congress, the states, ahead of one head figure.

2019-07-21 00:28:14 UTC

in fact the design of the system is such that the central government only receives power if 2/3rd of the states (not just a simple majority) agree that they should

2019-07-21 00:28:14 UTC

Yet those systems at play are becoming increasingly corrupt.

2019-07-21 00:28:22 UTC

And quite literally bicker.

2019-07-21 00:28:43 UTC

what they never counted on is states being willing to give away power to avoid responsiblity

2019-07-21 00:29:31 UTC

So why not eliminate the useless federal bickerers and let the states run themselves?

2019-07-21 00:29:49 UTC

in theory most of what people bitch about in the US, should be getting directed at their state and local government, not the federal

2019-07-21 00:29:51 UTC

the border wall is being built, as far as I can tell, it's just slow

2019-07-21 00:30:02 UTC

you want universal healthcare, do it at the state level

2019-07-21 00:30:12 UTC

Lol. I do not

2019-07-21 00:30:19 UTC

It was an example

2019-07-21 00:30:42 UTC

Because then we get what happens in the early 1800’s where the states don’t have any reason to listen or to help each other.

2019-07-21 00:31:15 UTC

the original design was to largely reduce the federal bickering topics to a minimum, if I understand correctly

2019-07-21 00:31:31 UTC

so given the lack of topics, not as many people are needed, and not as much needs to be done on a federal level

2019-07-21 00:31:56 UTC

but federal consolidation of what should be state powers has caused both an excess of bickering and of bickerers to bring in

2019-07-21 00:32:10 UTC

@Nucleon so should the UK stay in the EU? Otherwise they might not have any reason to help their fellow Europeans

2019-07-21 00:32:58 UTC

the EU exists for its own sake, not to make cooperation between member states easier

2019-07-21 00:33:14 UTC

But the US govt is better than that right?

2019-07-21 00:33:23 UTC

They don’t need to help their fellow europeans. They are an island with plenty of poweron a national stage and can function on their own. Unlike say kansas, a landlocked state.

2019-07-21 00:33:59 UTC

the US govt is less bad than the EU, yes

2019-07-21 00:34:03 UTC

Planes exist. What does Kansas need from Oregon?

2019-07-21 00:34:45 UTC

Landlocked is not very relevant today.

2019-07-21 00:34:50 UTC

I question your knowledge of infrastructure if you think planes just solve the whole problem. Ports are still hugely important for a reason

2019-07-21 00:35:10 UTC

For international trade with china sure

2019-07-21 00:35:43 UTC

But why does kansas need to be bound to California's sanctuary cities against its will?

2019-07-21 00:36:09 UTC

Assuming its against their will
