that the Federal Government hires a fuckton of people doesnt really negate the consolidation of power since the country was formed
But the president. The supposed leader of the federal government seems to be almost powerless to actually get anything done
Isn't that weird?
that's not really true either
Its the system working as intended.
The president doesn’t make the laws.
@Nucleonso its good?
Is it true or not?
We have no wall from trump
There are checks and balances, but how much power comparatively to those checks and balances should he have?
We didn't get universal healthcare from obama
The president is the enforcer of laws and a figurehead for the nation. His job never was to “get things done” but its made to be such a big deal because its just one person compared to hundreds of reps & senators.
Is the system supposed to ruin all attempts at change?
yes, the system is supposed to avoid change
The system was meant to put Congress, the states, ahead of one head figure.
in fact the design of the system is such that the central government only receives power if 2/3rd of the states (not just a simple majority) agree that they should
Yet those systems at play are becoming increasingly corrupt.
And quite literally bicker.
what they never counted on is states being willing to give away power to avoid responsiblity
in theory most of what people bitch about in the US, should be getting directed at their state and local government, not the federal
the border wall is being built, as far as I can tell, it's just slow
you want universal healthcare, do it at the state level
Lol. I do not
It was an example
Because then we get what happens in the early 1800’s where the states don’t have any reason to listen or to help each other.
the original design was to largely reduce the federal bickering topics to a minimum, if I understand correctly
so given the lack of topics, not as many people are needed, and not as much needs to be done on a federal level
but federal consolidation of what should be state powers has caused both an excess of bickering and of bickerers to bring in
@Nucleon so should the UK stay in the EU? Otherwise they might not have any reason to help their fellow Europeans
the EU exists for its own sake, not to make cooperation between member states easier
But the US govt is better than that right?
They don’t need to help their fellow europeans. They are an island with plenty of poweron a national stage and can function on their own. Unlike say kansas, a landlocked state.
the US govt is less bad than the EU, yes
Planes exist. What does Kansas need from Oregon?
Landlocked is not very relevant today.
I question your knowledge of infrastructure if you think planes just solve the whole problem. Ports are still hugely important for a reason
For international trade with china sure
But why does kansas need to be bound to California's sanctuary cities against its will?
Assuming its against their will
