I saw a kid on the bus the other day with a Sporky toy and it got me thinking how that would work within the universe
Disney is like those giant irons from FLCL. Just sterilizing everything so we're all dumb paypigs for shit entertainment
what happens to toys of toys story characters?
especially ones that professionally made toy versions of amateur toys
eh if they make good stuff I'll watch it, if not I won't same rule as always for me
mass quantity doesn't necessarily mean low quality
but I doubt they'll see big returns for long if they flood with 3 remakes a year
they used to do remakes/sequels to hold onto rights but Lion King was probably 80+ years away from that
is the profit from the remakes more than what they'd get for a remaster release?
Disney now has until 2023 to figure out how to extend that date once again. Enter Steamboat Willy, the first Mickey Mouse cartoon and the first animated short by Walt Disney in 1928. Under the 1909 Copyright scheme, the Mickey Mouse character had copyright protection for 56 years (with the renewal), expiring in 1984
Mickey Mouse as Public Domain?!!??! NAY SAY DIZNAY
hmm I'd imagine some non disney cartoons would be pushing into public domain by now like Little Lulu or Felix
they still have a trademark on Mickey too don't they?
yeah
but there's no trademark infringement I believe
like there is for copyright infringement
if someone uses it they just sue don't they?
I know trademarks do have a higher expectation of defence on the owner's part
I go apeshit for cape shit.
so you can use the Superman S in stuff without getting sued, so I think you can use the name and visage of "mickey mouse" in your own art but not as it pertains to the disney logo
disney logo doesn't have mickey mouse in it anyway, its the castle with tinkerbell flying in an arc over it
so in theory you could remake Steamboat willy but not call the character Mickey I guess
yeah or the inverse
although I don't think he even goes by Mickey in that short
eh, I'm not an entertainment lawyer
I'm not saying they can't make good movies by making MANY movies, but I can certainly see where the industry is going. Is Star Wars 'good' right now? Did them pumping out those movies fair well? What does it look like for the future of the MCU? The casting of Ariel, etc etc etc
a bit soon to call it for the MCU phase 4, they're coming off the backs of some massive wins
maybe they can do what the comics couldn't and make the all new all different stuff work
I wasn't calling you out @RuRu I was just speaking in general, I like you
nono, you're fine. Just sayin
hopefully they will still keep using the Russos going forward
if Disney were smart they'd put them on Captain Marvel 2 assuming that it's still going to be a thing
It's perfectly fine to hold out optimism for good films. I'm far less so with Disney. They're too deep into pandering, and far to risk adverse to take any real chances on new stories
the Russos said they were moving on to other non-disney projects
we'll see I guess, Disney are sure to throw around some crazy money for them in the future
tangentially related, I can't think of the last time I was excited for a movie or show. video game yes, everything else no.
So about what I wrote earlier: Petra Kelly was a prominent Green Party politician who was involved in the founding of the green party and protests against the stationing of nuclear weapons in Germany. She was later shot by her boyfriend Gert Bastian a former green party politician who was involved in the same causes as her. (Protest against nuclear weapons in Germany or the peace movement). He commited suicide after killing her before Stasi files could reveal his role as an east German spy.
He was also a member of Generals for peace, a group of nato generals involved in the peace movement who were getting money from the Stasi. That peacemovement which opposed american missiles in Germany was not only supported by east Germany, but was the movement which later gave rise to the greens.
Disney has never genuinely made any of their own original content. It's all old Grimm fairy tales or legends they adapted and Disney-fide. Now they're just acquiring other franchises cause they can't seem to pull anything out of their asses. The only time they every looked original was with Pixar, and now with Pixar taking all their marching orders from Disney, Pixar is mostly unnecessary sequels
spot on, Artsy Man.
lol thanks
do you have suggestions for movies/shows that are unaffected leftist shit?
