What would actually happen in the military is that the instructor would inform the (presumably) private that the gun just fired and that he is, in fact, dead. His battle buddy would then have to carry him.
By rejecting the standards of the past as antiquated now she'll die alone in a filthy apartment and that little fat animal will eat the soft parts of her to sustain itself, because she has no one that cares about her!
