Then again, I loved Mass Effect 3

2019-03-17 11:30:22 UTC

I thought mass effect three was fine.

2019-03-17 12:13:19 UTC

Everyone freaked out about the ending. I thought it was fine. What did they want, a Fallout style slide show?

2019-03-17 12:44:21 UTC

I wasn't terribly bothered by the ending, but there was the fact that something like six months before the game released, one of the devs did an interview where he said something about how the story was too complex to just wrap it up with three color coded endings, or something to that effect.

2019-03-17 12:44:28 UTC

You know, exactly what they did.

2019-03-17 13:03:20 UTC

Not enough people were upset by how poorly Bioware handled ME2

2019-03-17 13:03:56 UTC

And it was 2 weeks before the game came out, and the guy who wrote the ending restating that they wouldn't do an A/B/C ending

2019-03-17 13:04:44 UTC

I was thoroughly not upset

2019-03-17 13:04:59 UTC

🤷

2019-03-17 13:05:05 UTC

I really enjoyed it

2019-03-17 13:06:29 UTC

Ripped most of the RPG out of their RPG, retconned aspects of the setting so they could make it more like a generic cover shooter

2019-03-17 13:06:38 UTC

🤢

2019-03-17 13:07:30 UTC

I really liked Fallout 4

2019-03-17 13:08:22 UTC

I would honestly argue that it basically isn't an RPG anymore. The Bethesda gutting is complete

2019-03-17 13:09:02 UTC

It's still an RPG.

2019-03-17 13:09:08 UTC

In what sense?

2019-03-17 13:10:06 UTC

I'm avoiding this argument because I doubt you'll change your mind

2019-03-17 13:12:13 UTC

It's possible that you have an argument for this that I haven't heard already. Ultimately I'd say the main issue is that the category "RPG" has been so diluted that people will use it for basically anything. However if you operate on an exclusive definition, FO4 either barely counts, or doesn't count at all, depending on how granular you want to get

2019-03-17 13:15:00 UTC

I just think people have nostalgia glass. One complaint is the dialog options are yes, sarcastic yes, where's Shaun and no. I just finished Fallout NV for the fifty time and the dialog options are yes, sarcastic yes based on skill points, where's Benny, and no

2019-03-17 13:15:57 UTC

Except "no" is really "mean yes"

2019-03-17 13:16:04 UTC

That's verifiably not true. That's also not what disqualifies it as an RPG
Further the complaint with FO4 is that it's Yes/Yes/Yes/Later

2019-03-17 13:16:58 UTC

See, actually what I said. You asked my opinion, I told you, and immediately I'm told how my opinion is wrong.

2019-03-17 13:17:09 UTC

No, you made a statement of fact

2019-03-17 13:17:15 UTC

And I pointed out how it wasn't true

2019-03-17 13:17:19 UTC

I'll go one step further

2019-03-17 13:17:23 UTC

🙄

2019-03-17 13:17:28 UTC

I'm done.

2019-03-17 13:18:47 UTC

When you get into Caesar's camp, and talk to him, you can investigate his ideology. You can also find out he has cancer. You can kill him, force Arcade Gannon to be his doctor, fix his auto doc or leave him to his fate. You can do all of these while remaining in the same faction. You're always able to kill him

2019-03-17 13:19:01 UTC

I'm sorry. Fallout 4 was complete shit. Gimme a pitchfork so I can sit around complaining too.

2019-03-17 13:19:06 UTC

You're right

2019-03-17 13:19:17 UTC

Thank you for enlightening me

2019-03-17 13:19:26 UTC

I'm sorry, RPG categorization does not make something good/bad

2019-03-17 13:19:37 UTC

It merely makes something an RPG/not an RPG

2019-03-17 13:20:03 UTC

Further, something being bad doesn't make it unlikeable. There are a lot of fun "bad" movies/games/etc

2019-03-17 13:20:32 UTC

I would argue Dynasty Warriors is total dogshit. I still like it anyway

2019-03-17 13:21:05 UTC

I dunno. I think Fallout 4 was good and I enjoyed it. Sorry

2019-03-17 13:21:19 UTC

Right but that's not what the topic was.

2019-03-17 13:22:02 UTC

I also think it's an rpg

2019-03-17 13:22:05 UTC

It's actually entirely moot. My avoidance of Bethesda games because of their utter lack of Quality Control and publisher-end scumminess is also irrelevant.

2019-03-17 13:22:47 UTC

Okay, but what makes something an RPG? Better yet, at what point would it no longer be an RPG?
