The problem with assisted suicide, is that it provides a perverse incentive, especially in socialized health care since it is cheaper to kill someone than treat them.

2019-06-04 21:37:55 UTC

I think the problem with assisted suicide is that it's suicide.

2019-06-04 21:38:00 UTC

cut cost and waste

2019-06-04 21:38:09 UTC

agree dueybear

2019-06-04 21:38:35 UTC

We also used to agree as a society that suicide was a terrible thing. Now it’s like “feeing sad? Just kill yourself. Here, I’ll help you”

2019-06-04 21:38:41 UTC

then add in their projected tax revenue from the patient if allowed to live.

And it effectively puts into law that life is one signature away from being ended, which opens up room for people being manipulated into taking their own lives.

2019-06-04 21:39:22 UTC

Trying to predict the outcomes of opening the door usually just gets rebuffed with "slippery slope fallacy"

2019-06-04 21:43:54 UTC

damn reliable fallacy it is, tho

2019-06-04 21:43:59 UTC

well if you have sufficent evidence with your argument, then respond with the fallacy fallacy

2019-06-04 21:44:12 UTC

not every slippery slope is a slippery slope fallacy

2019-06-04 21:44:21 UTC

Depends on the religion, but family and religious devotion tend to result in lower suicide rates.
In East Asia however, religiosity is linked with higher suicide, but that is because of the honor oriented basis of religions like Shintoism, Buddhism and Taoism and the belief that dying is like a respawn command (you reincarnate)

2019-06-04 21:45:04 UTC

indeed. different culture around it

2019-06-04 21:47:56 UTC

Every progressive position hurts the poor and benefits the rich.

2019-06-04 21:48:34 UTC

Open borders, assisted suicide, socialized healthcare, all of these put additional pressures on the poor.

2019-06-04 21:48:49 UTC

I like that assisted suicide is only a bad idea because muh poorsies

2019-06-04 21:49:49 UTC

Tell them the death tax from euthanized rich people will be distributed to the poor
