The stupid thing about handmaid's tale is the same as what was stupid about V for Vendetta. In both cases, they had an ideology close at hand that actually would and does behave in the way depicted (muslims and leftists, respectively), and yet they felt the need to bend over backwards to pretend like it was conservatives and evangelicals that would do it.
