I told a girl I knew in Indiana that new orleans was about to be under water

all I had to go on was learning in grade school that new orleans was below sea level and getting hit by a hurrican would be devastating

The US gov't, the state gov't, and the city gov't all acted as though they didn't know that

they didn't call for evacuation until the day before the storm hit

the city had hundreds of buses ready to evacuate the city, but they were all still parked in their lots and under water after the storm hit

mayor nagin was getting slammed for not calling the evacuation as the storm came in, but he still said, nah

DHS had virtually infinite resources to respond, but it took days for them to initiate, and weeks to actually get there

the florida national guard had to cut their way in through hundreds of miles of downed trees and they still got there before DHS

what happened at the super dome was basically people having to choose between a rock and a hard place

there was no right choice because all of the fuckups that came before had left them with no good options

To be honest, I think that what went wrong with Katrina had more to do with every govornment official in New Orleans being laughably corrupt than the hurricane itself.

I've heard a lot of stories about how money given to reinforce the levees was pocketed instead and stuff of that nature.

I know some people who *DIDN'T* totally fuck up thier part of Katrina...
