so yea, there's definitely a large place for deontological thinking. i just think if you're a particularly smart person, you're losing out by following it

(deontology doesnt catch out the edge cases)

so if you can get those edge cases right, and others cant, you have an advantage over them

but you would want the principles to be derived from consequentialist arguments

rather than having them instituted without any good justification

(which is what i argue a lot of people do -> they take "learned principles" from other people, but where did those other people get their principles from 😉 its almost like an infinite regression and when you look at where they came from, a lot of them were originally derived in a bygone era, and thus the principle may no longer be useful in its consequences)
