Anything good come out of that class discussion?
Or armed and trained populus.
I've thought of the best pro gun solution to mass shootings, and what I came up with is a modified version of Mandy's law he pushes on here
@C1PHER No. Everyone was pro gun control and extremely poorly educated on gun laws. I dont even think any of them have even fired a gun.
Not everyone is going to walk around strapped all the time, particularly children, and I don't think it's right to force people to carry
So soft targets need proper security
call it the Sentinel Militia Act. Basically get a universal free license, that requires training, that gives you freedom to carry open or concealed anywhere. Opt in, but offer benefits to joining
have the license requirements managed by the Nat Guard, and only local databases about enrollees
Oh honestly I think firearms and first aid should be a required component of schooling
^^^^
big fax
I think the root to the problem goes back again to dysfunctional families and and escalated mental health problems
@pussydestroyer that's definitely true, but soft targets do seem to invite this sort of thing
Quite possibly. Somehow this wasn't a problem in the era of mail-order machine guns
2a is civics, civics is important for citizens to know
Ergo 2a should be core curriculum
That's the other thing eh
Gun restrictions started proper in what, the 60s?
depends on what you mean
(well, organised crime probably was but still)
Oh Im not disputing that. But I think its important to combat the problem that causes predominantly men, to commit mass shootings. I feel like mass shootings is a symptom of a deeper problem in our culture @A. Spader
1860s was the first time you see any real restrictions, with acts to bar black people from owning guns under the guise of 'safety'
The NFA was in the 1930's, so I'd at least go back that far
1920s and 30s are the first time racially neutral gun control was a thing
yeah the NFA
and the NRA helped ban conceal carry in a number of states in the 1920s
Ah, 34 and 27 seem to be highlights yeah
Oh and the FFL
then you have the GCA of 1968, that was the real hammer
in 38
Yeah that's what I was thinking of
same year Reagan banned OC in city public in california
Point being though, outside of racially targeted laws and laws deemed unconstitutional
Primary breakdown of gun rights is relatively recent
And yet it's not like for all of the US' history it was this brutal and barbaric place
from about 1968-1990s the 2A was almost destroyed
but the conceal carry movement and orgs like the Second Amendment Foundation and Gun Owners of America had started in the mid 80s, and by 2000 gun rights came roaring back
contrary to what Colbert believes, American gun culture is experiencing revival right now
we're light years better off than we were only 30 years ago
the '94 Assault Weapons Ban is not getting passed again without ether major opposition or civil war
Isnt crime overall going down as well?
yep
