Okay, so what about the inverse? Japan hasn't been terribly Christian and they turned shit right the fuck around multiple times

2019-10-08 23:01:46 UTC

Well, pre Americanization they were Rape of Nanking'ing it up

2019-10-08 23:02:13 UTC

And once we basically turned them into our sock puppet they are now the Japan we know and wish we didn't know quite so well

2019-10-08 23:02:19 UTC

While the Germans, Italians and Russians were being perfect yeah?

2019-10-08 23:02:28 UTC

While the Balkans were totally fine

2019-10-08 23:02:31 UTC

#thecrusades /s

2019-10-08 23:02:48 UTC

Good night guys and God bless

2019-10-08 23:02:49 UTC

See, the thing is that the nazis were secularists and so were the russians

2019-10-08 23:02:51 UTC

Japan had a long history prior to WW2

2019-10-08 23:02:59 UTC

And it's also pretty fucked up

2019-10-08 23:03:02 UTC

like the lot of it

2019-10-08 23:03:24 UTC

Most histories are quite fucked up

2019-10-08 23:03:32 UTC

They were also pretty dogmatically zealous in their secular views.

2019-10-08 23:03:47 UTC

It only really gets better once you get into mixed secular/christian values

2019-10-08 23:03:50 UTC

Which

2019-10-08 23:03:51 UTC

might just

2019-10-08 23:03:53 UTC

be the point

2019-10-08 23:03:59 UTC

Perhaps the problem has less to do with the religion and more how dogmatic the beliefs are

2019-10-08 23:04:09 UTC

I'd agree with that

2019-10-08 23:04:22 UTC

The inquisition wasn't exactly a great look

2019-10-08 23:04:31 UTC

Yeah I think it's more the moderation and opening up of society

2019-10-08 23:04:53 UTC

Which in Europe happened, after a lot of bloodshed, with the Church's say so

2019-10-08 23:05:00 UTC

The Inquisition depended partly on where you were, IIRC

2019-10-08 23:05:09 UTC

And in Japan happened after doublenuke

2019-10-08 23:05:21 UTC

In some places people who had committed other crimes would turn themselves into the Inquisition because the inquisitors would give them lighter sentences

2019-10-08 23:05:28 UTC

Yeah unlike those Christians that are
Closed and unwilling to listen

2019-10-08 23:05:30 UTC

turn themselves in to* not into

2019-10-08 23:05:51 UTC

(though I guess there had to be at least one reformed criminal inquisitor just because of stats)

2019-10-08 23:07:11 UTC

There's a variety of factors, honestly, that go into which societies succeed and which fail. The culture is also going to be a product of those circumstances

2019-10-08 23:09:12 UTC

And judeo-christian cultures are far more likely to succeed

2019-10-08 23:09:25 UTC

So much more likely that they've been steadily dragging the rest of the world into the future

2019-10-08 23:09:27 UTC

Like, if you look at the North American native groups, you had groups that had proper housing because they could rely on fishing, vs groups that were nomadic because they relied on hunting (and either hunted nomadic prey or over hunted and needed to allow areas to become fertile again)
Down south you had a fucking empire

2019-10-08 23:10:45 UTC

Compare that to Mongolia and the other regions where these same people came from, who had much stiffer competition for resources

2019-10-08 23:11:05 UTC

One group got a lot more advanced a lot faster than the other

2019-10-08 23:13:06 UTC

Sure, but those empires were warlike empires which couldn't have ever survived on their own without a steady supply of slaves... and fresh hearts

2019-10-08 23:13:22 UTC

And you may notice that while they were still making tools out of obsidian

2019-10-08 23:13:32 UTC

the conquistadors showed up in breastplates with guns

2019-10-08 23:13:36 UTC

We're talking in relative terms here my dude

2019-10-08 23:13:55 UTC

You had an empire, nomadic tribes, and villages in one continent

2019-10-08 23:14:19 UTC

Sure, but where were the aquaducts at that time

2019-10-08 23:14:20 UTC

None of them had Christ, unless you believe the Mormons
