MP3 being the classic example as compared to lossless audio formats like WAV or FLAC, MP3s traditionally were/still are lossy and compressed, same goes for newer formats like AAC or m4a, which can be either constant or variable bitrate (CBR/VBR), and compared to MP3s are superior in sound quality and have a smaller file size, 192 kbps CBR at 44100 kHz is universally recognized as being an acceptable level of sound quality for most web-based and streaming situations where music plays a role, like movies, streaming radio, etc and you'll typically get somewhere from 96 kbps to 192 kbps VBR with a variable bitrate for situations with more dialogue and simple vocal content, with little dynamic range so as to take advantage of the unnoticeable compression on dialogue/vocals which is perfect for stuff like discord, VOIP, video game teamspeak apps and audio included in most computers'.built-in webcams/cheaper point and shoot digital cameras that shoot video to SD cards.
