There is a reason that people say that lotr suceeded in spite of Tolkien.

2018-10-18 23:25:33 UTC

Haha

2018-10-18 23:25:52 UTC

He's the archetypical world builder who... developed his characters along the lines of an afterthought

2018-10-18 23:30:05 UTC

sometimes it makes me sad that people can't look at males being close friends without someone making the "joke" of it just being gay.

2018-10-18 23:30:11 UTC

LotR is honestly a beautiful work, it's just very slow paced for two books

2018-10-18 23:30:35 UTC

The openness of homosexuality restrains heterosexual male affection

2018-10-18 23:30:35 UTC

@Shadows blame the sexual revolution mate

I remember reading a letter by John Adams or one of the other founding fathers, sleeping in the same bed as another founding father

2018-10-18 23:32:04 UTC

GAY!

2018-10-18 23:32:12 UTC

Yeah, so gay

2018-10-18 23:33:21 UTC

Every man who ever expressed kinship with another man was gay -Gay Scholars Everywhere

2018-10-18 23:33:34 UTC

indeed

2018-10-18 23:36:03 UTC

I don't mind people really joking tho, what makes me sad is the ones that really believe men can never have bonds without things being sexual.

2018-10-18 23:38:37 UTC

That's why the practice of "shipping" kind of annoying's me, but.... people are free to enjoy what they want......

2018-10-18 23:45:05 UTC

Shipping is hilarious

2018-10-18 23:45:20 UTC

But big difference between fantasy and insistence

A pot of refried beans sounds really good tbh

2018-10-19 01:26:24 UTC

@wolfman1911 do you consider federal spending on roads a hand out to cars?

2018-10-19 01:26:50 UTC

Not really.

2018-10-19 01:26:59 UTC

I've never heard anyone put it that way.

2018-10-19 01:31:49 UTC

@wolfman1911 ok. I’m kind of toying with an idea. One of the biggest criticisms of libertarianism is ‘what about muh roads?’ I’m starting to think that federal funding of roads is, in part, responsible for the current situation of urban sprawl and quantity of fossil fuels used for transportation. I halfway think that there would be far more public transportation and denser urban living if roads weren’t paid for by the feds. What do you think?

2018-10-19 01:34:53 UTC

Watch Crowder's Devil's Advocate with Ben Shapiro and they have a good discussion about roads being an exception since they are non rivalrous commodities

2018-10-19 01:35:25 UTC

Well, I can't see a situation where I would call myself a libertarian, but I can kinda see their point about the roads.

That said, I also see the value in having the roads paid for as they are, because I have a hard time imagining how else it could work.

2018-10-19 01:36:17 UTC

Well remember that the line between a Libertarian and an anarchist is whether the government is there or not

2018-10-19 01:44:35 UTC

It is, but ancaps keep calling themselves libertarians

2018-10-19 01:44:43 UTC

Like how socialists keep calling themselves liberal

2018-10-19 01:49:12 UTC

@wolfman1911 @SteelandSouls Here’s how I think things would’ve turned out. Transportation between cities would be dominated by trains and planes, cities would still pave urban roads. International transportation would be heavily focused on public transportation or smaller vehicles. Sort of utopian sounding, but wonder if it would be true.

2018-10-19 01:52:51 UTC

I think I just had an almost #metoo moment
