He has at one point saying that he does not but he lives like he does

2018-11-20 23:07:44 UTC

Because the ideas are like denominations of the same religion.

2018-11-20 23:08:14 UTC

Peterson gets called a Nazi and lectures on the bible all the time. I don't think saying "I'm Christian and believe in God" would hurt him

2018-11-20 23:08:39 UTC

By that logic all Monotheism is just Zoroastrianism

2018-11-20 23:09:59 UTC

The Christian God has specific properties. If you don't believe those properties how are you still a Christian?

2018-11-20 23:10:10 UTC

Ok. I see your point.

2018-11-20 23:11:05 UTC

But they are still functionally the same.

2018-11-20 23:11:45 UTC

In some scenarios, sure. Does Peterson believe the creation story though? Or just use it as metaphor?

2018-11-20 23:12:05 UTC

He treats it metaphorically

2018-11-20 23:12:17 UTC

Does he believe the events in the Bible or see them as fables that he uses to create his own moral compass, hence his use of Nietzsche?

2018-11-20 23:12:27 UTC

A blend of both

2018-11-20 23:12:50 UTC

There are historical aspects of the bible and there are the miraculous/mystical aspects of it

2018-11-20 23:13:14 UTC

Why is a deist required to view the creation of the universe through a Christian Lens ? Deism is the idea that God exist creative universe and stepped aside. That’s it.

2018-11-20 23:13:33 UTC

^

2018-11-20 23:13:52 UTC

Well that's the thing, has Peterson commented on creation? I only ever hear him talk about God as Order

2018-11-20 23:14:16 UTC

He leans toward the evolutionary aspect of things.

2018-11-20 23:16:06 UTC

That is called intelligent design.

2018-11-20 23:16:41 UTC

The driving force in *evolution* isn't a designer though

2018-11-20 23:17:04 UTC

Why isn't it though?

2018-11-20 23:17:55 UTC

Because it's caused by environmental and genetic factors. It's measurable. Humans also went through it

2018-11-20 23:18:09 UTC

Right...but the intelligent design would be its origin

2018-11-20 23:18:14 UTC

Is the argument then that humans don't have free will, since everything about them was forced to be the way it is?

2018-11-20 23:18:22 UTC

Right but we're talking about the process

2018-11-20 23:18:25 UTC

Not the origin point

2018-11-20 23:18:44 UTC

Right. But Intelligent Design would be the origin and evolution would be the process

2018-11-20 23:18:46 UTC

Just because it’s measurable doesn’t mean that God isn’t n behind it.

2018-11-20 23:18:47 UTC

The driving force in evolution is what makes it occur over time

2018-11-20 23:19:15 UTC

@Salacious Swanky Cat then Free Will is a myth, because our progress and procreation are divinely controlled

2018-11-20 23:19:44 UTC

This sounds like it's going into the free will vs predestination argument

2018-11-20 23:20:09 UTC

@Beemann lol. Not entirely Mr. Calvinist.

2018-11-20 23:20:24 UTC

Didn't the Christians have that argument a long time ago and the free will people won?

2018-11-20 23:21:02 UTC

Yeah but it's kind of reached a point where both can be true. At least, people are believing both can be true

2018-11-20 23:21:19 UTC

If a divine being controls how your species progresses, which includes who you procreate with, how do you have free will?

2018-11-20 23:21:38 UTC

@grant their denominations it still believe in predestination over free will. I’m actually going to denomination right now that believes in predestination.

2018-11-20 23:21:41 UTC

Evolution isn't a thing that happened, it's *happening*

2018-11-20 23:21:52 UTC

@yuma_8 I understand that. That is correct.

2018-11-20 23:22:07 UTC

I look at it like a Choose-your-own-Adventure book. The Author gives you multiple endings and you just go on the ride

2018-11-20 23:22:21 UTC

Right but you're saying he chooses the end

2018-11-20 23:22:31 UTC

If he's the driving force behind evolutionary progress

2018-11-20 23:22:58 UTC

@Beemann Because you can think. And God already knows the choice you’re going to make

2018-11-20 23:22:59 UTC

I think He knows the end. Not that He chooses the end
