i might talk about it later, but online security definitely does not stop at a VPN. It also means choosing the right browser with the right security and privacy features, as well as addons that block trackers, invisible trackers, ads, and other things that can be used to identify you. Alternatively, you could disable javascript and plugins alltogether, (breaks sites), and have no tracking or browser fingerprinting at all.
You could also just use an OS or Browser that doesn't even support some of those plugins in the first place
Once you move away from Firefox/Chromium forks theres a few options like that. Re: OS', if it's just for work and multimedia, OpenBSD will not allow you to use Flash, on top of having good security options
here's a few more good ideas:
Keep a physical notebook
That said, someone who really wants to find you and has the resources still will
you can't have paper searched by algorithm unless someone holds onto it personally.
there are plenty of low-tech solutions to problems that have high-tech solutions now that work almost as good.
Also
>implying I don't
read paper books.
they can't be edited.
ok, they CAN be edited but not after they're printed.
Your rights to a physical book can't be terminated arbitrarily
^^
Same with movies, music, vidya etc
Physical products are sorely underrated
use USB drives to store data you don't want people to get access to, and remove them when you are done. data in an inert state can't be accessed.

Tbh the "oh fuck" moment was realizing that even airgapped devices can have vulnerabilities
People are fucking devious
yeah, but if you want a little assurance, start by buying a little used laptop for anything you don't want people to see, and strip the wireless card.
and shut off bluetooth if its separate.
and also remember: All speakers are microphones, and all microphones are speakers.
Even I'd you're going to keep it connected I'd still support the "buy a little used laptop" plan and just experiment with it
Ease yourself into Unix
~~Whoops~~ de-yeeted
memory holed!
Got one laptop running arch and another I'm trying to setup OpenBSD on
Spare part computers are great too
openBDSM sounds like a bad idea for security...
People, Get Off the Grid Now!
*waits for people to leave discords*
oh no, I'm not an advocate for disconnecting.
surrendering this space to the libs would only accelerate the end.
I've been setting up backups on alternative services tbh
lol i know, i'm just playing.
Discord is compromised and has been for ages
however closed networks of conservatives play a key role in counter revolutionary actions.
the biggest safety comes in numbers and cohesion. Tyrants struggle to kill many people, even in the era of push-button warfare and mass murder.
Depends on how those numbers are configured, and what options they have
The modern narrative I see played out time and time again is a large group becoming dependent on a compromised, proprietary service, and then having no backup plan when that invariably backfires
that's not likely. the number of services is diverse, and while say banning youtube would be a blow, you can always fall back on regular fileserves.
