```The latest from Senator Jeff Merkey:
"Thank you for contacting me to express your views on access to guns and your support for the Second Amendment.
In light of the many senseless tragedies in public places across the country, I believe it is appropriate to work together to take action to reduce gun violence. We can reduce gun violence and still respect the Second Amendment.
For example, Americans overwhelmingly support common-sense gun safety legislation, such as expanding background checks. This sentiment is shared by a majority of gun owners and NRA members as well. Oregonians specifically also support these measures, which is why our state voted in favor of a ballot initiative that expanded background checks to help close the gun show loophole over a decade and a half ago. I have cosponsored the federal version of this measure, the Background Check Expansion Act (S.42) that would require background checks for the sale or transfer of all firearms by private sellers.
As a native of rural Oregon, I understand that Oregon has a strong tradition of responsible gun ownership. I recognize the importance of gun ownership for security, hunting, target shooting, and gun collecting. At the same time, we must, as a nation, take meaningful action to ensure that guns don’t end up in the hands of criminals or those wishing to commit acts of terror. I believe we can do so while respecting the Second Amendment and the rights of law-abiding gun owners.
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with me. I recognize that Oregonians come down in very different places on this issue. Please know that I will keep your views in mind as the Senate considers this topic.
All my best,
Jeffrey A. Merkley
United States Senator"```
And that's why I'm glad I put Oregon in my rear view.
Have you ever felt more respected?
Theres a guy who doesnt just care for your vote
All the respect.
Granted, this place sucks, bring litterally an hour away from anywhere and unable to leave, what with the protesters and all, but at least I don't have THAT anymore.
