A lot of low-skill jobs will go bye-bye.

2019-08-01 01:36:05 UTC

well

2019-08-01 01:36:11 UTC

automation has been coming for over a hundred years. AI is not as smart as people make it out to be

2019-08-01 01:37:02 UTC

there are a lot of low skill jobs which are so unique it wouldnt make sense to automate them

2019-08-01 01:37:05 UTC

when has stopping the advancement of technology ever succeeded

Even if it is, per-worker productivity will go up. It would require a restructure of how we look at employment but the whole pie will grow.

2019-08-01 01:38:35 UTC

If we stopped assuming that every individual needs to be a self-sufficient worker unit it wouldn't be a problem. Extended families could group together around a couple of employed family members, all playing support roles like childcare etc.

2019-08-01 01:38:37 UTC

also the chief engineer should be pro automation dont you think?

2019-08-01 01:40:01 UTC

I think you might find many engineers concern about automation. We are concern the distruption it will cause.

2019-08-01 01:41:14 UTC

People think automation is still way off. I don't know about that. Only 20 years ago our computers were just heavy bricks. Now a smartphone beats the Apollo computers hands down!

2019-08-01 01:42:02 UTC

And yet unemployment is not significantly different and smartphones have not resulted in a net loss of jobs.

2019-08-01 01:42:19 UTC

(I do believe widespread automation is coming btw)

2019-08-01 01:42:52 UTC

Because they actually have help us do more or have better access.

2019-08-01 01:43:12 UTC

I think it's unwise to thing widespread automation is still off.

2019-08-01 01:43:38 UTC

It's coming, just because you don't see it now, doesn't mean it's not like an iceberg.

2019-08-01 01:43:56 UTC

I do see it. I just think we can adapt to it.

2019-08-01 01:44:09 UTC

wouldnt that be something. us lucky bastards wouldnt need to work anymore. Noone ever thought that before.

2019-08-01 01:44:11 UTC

And it represents new wealth creation.

2019-08-01 01:44:35 UTC

@scaevola it is good for man to work.

2019-08-01 01:44:40 UTC

2019-08-01 01:44:47 UTC

To some degree at least.

2019-08-01 01:44:52 UTC

2019-08-01 01:44:54 UTC

Depends to them.

2019-08-01 01:45:01 UTC

Up to them.

2019-08-01 01:45:12 UTC

where else would woman work?

2019-08-01 01:45:23 UTC

that doesnt make sense

2019-08-01 01:45:28 UTC

What if they want to be an engineer?

2019-08-01 01:45:34 UTC

2019-08-01 01:45:36 UTC

Or a scientist.

2019-08-01 01:45:39 UTC

2019-08-01 01:45:57 UTC

2019-08-01 01:46:10 UTC

2019-08-01 01:46:16 UTC

If you want to talk about the debate hop in general voice chat

2019-08-01 01:46:20 UTC

Very good at what they do.

2019-08-01 01:46:46 UTC

I have met some very smart cooks as well

2019-08-01 01:47:07 UTC

Your point?

2019-08-01 01:47:33 UTC

Did the steam just get cut off?

2019-08-01 01:47:40 UTC

I think it did.

2019-08-01 01:47:49 UTC

Stream died

2019-08-01 01:47:50 UTC

@scaevola there are lots of good woman engineers, just not nearly as many as men.
