if you just 'homelessness in general' that's a pretty empty statement

2019-09-24 01:28:12 UTC

It's a common thing you see everywhere now

2019-09-24 01:28:19 UTC

Chinese buy up blocks and blocks of land

2019-09-24 01:28:22 UTC

never live in them

2019-09-24 01:28:27 UTC

at inflated prices

2019-09-24 01:28:36 UTC

Wait for the value to inflate further

2019-09-24 01:28:51 UTC

Councils calculate property value as per the inflated rates

2019-09-24 01:28:56 UTC

Property taxes go up

2019-09-24 01:29:18 UTC

People can't afford their mortgages/can't afford to buy a house to begin with

2019-09-24 01:29:26 UTC

Rents go up because of higher property values

2019-09-24 01:29:29 UTC

speculation in housing doesn't happen as much as people say it does. and we can just tax empty property

2019-09-24 01:29:30 UTC

It's between 25 and 50% in Canada

2019-09-24 01:29:42 UTC

Of homeless people with mental illnesses

2019-09-24 01:29:44 UTC

>doesn't happen as much as people say it does

2019-09-24 01:29:46 UTC

kak

2019-09-24 01:29:52 UTC

it is also really hard to find a number on it

2019-09-24 01:30:06 UTC

yeah, taxing empty property

2019-09-24 01:30:16 UTC

Did you really just ignore the other half of that wall of text I typed

2019-09-24 01:30:16 UTC

yea do it

2019-09-24 01:30:20 UTC

DID

2019-09-24 01:30:21 UTC

YOU

2019-09-24 01:30:22 UTC

JUST

2019-09-24 01:30:23 UTC

Many of them are also using psychoactive substances

2019-09-24 01:30:24 UTC

IGNORE

2019-09-24 01:30:26 UTC

THE OTHER HALF

2019-09-24 01:30:29 UTC

OF THAT WALL OF TEXT

2019-09-24 01:30:35 UTC

READ YOU FUCKING ILLITERATE

2019-09-24 01:30:53 UTC

"You have to live here to buy property here"

2019-09-24 01:30:56 UTC

Oh look

2019-09-24 01:31:08 UTC

oh wait

2019-09-24 01:31:21 UTC

you think people shouldn't lose their house if they cannot pay their taxes

2019-09-24 01:32:58 UTC

Why do you have to keep paying someone for something you supposedly wholly own?

2019-09-24 01:33:19 UTC

The thing you're saying doesn't happen often is genuinely what is happening to Canada and Australia

2019-09-24 01:33:21 UTC

@Fondboy 1) Reduce or eliminate zoning and streamline the permitting process to allow the building market to respond faster to price signals. 2) Eliminate rent controls and housing subsidies. 3) Bar non-residents and especially foreign investment firms from owning residential property. 4) Chill while the problem solves itself.

2019-09-24 01:33:43 UTC

because it is an asset I believe

2019-09-24 01:33:54 UTC

Your body is also an asset

2019-09-24 01:33:55 UTC

it gains or losses value like a stock

2019-09-24 01:34:03 UTC

Should you pay taxes on owning that, too?

2019-09-24 01:34:11 UTC

a stock?

2019-09-24 01:34:17 UTC

capital gains is bullshit

2019-09-24 01:34:18 UTC

yes
