now that you said that
wow I'm retarded
well lesson learned I guess
before the failure, was there a chonking noise while turning the car(while moving) or did it just fail without warning?
the chonking noise under the above condition is the sound of impending cv joint failure
yeah
there was a chonking noise
I had no clue what it was
dammit
ok. 2 possible reasons for the failure
a. jamming the gears in to the opposite direction of movement
b. the rubber boots that protect the cv joints failed either from age or mechanical interference, eg. kicked up stones or driving over shit that can drag on/ tear the boots
tbh
I jammed the gears *alot*
as said, I was ignorant of any side effects
feel like an absolute moron now
b. is the usual cause for the failure with people who don't do that shit
it's very common
I mean
idk
it's a 26 year old car
but I clearly had no clue what I was doing
RIP Spader's car
eh
3 years or so
*how long I've been driving it
ok. a car that age it would be unusual if it hadn't failed maybe 2 or more times without a regular service schedule to catch it early
I'm not aware it's ever been replaced
my father owned it for as long as I've been alive
22 years, approximately
nice
the boots will 100% chance have been replaced in that time to last so long
okay
so it probably was my dumbassery that broke it, then
eh
3 years is a decent run
especially taking that into consideration
I mean
the replacements are fairly affordable
😬
