If so it would not be a tautology.

Because the "I'm never going to get home" adds the information that if you don't drive the whole distance to get home tonight, you will never reach home EVER because of an external reason.

Where as "If I don't drive far enough, I'm never going to get home" would be a tautology as you are saying that if I don't drive far enough to get home I'll never get home.
