2017-06-12 20:41:42 UTC

i wonder why

gotta see that debian logo

2017-06-12 20:43:15 UTC

also not worried about gpu, probably not even gonna bother upgraging gpu at first when i build a new desktop

2017-06-12 20:43:32 UTC

i just need moarcores and more ram

2017-06-12 20:43:48 UTC

only thing that sucks with xfce is screen tearing

2017-06-12 20:43:51 UTC

will you go rAYYzen?

2017-06-12 20:43:57 UTC

anyone here who 3d prints knows the slic3r struggle

2017-06-12 20:43:57 UTC

but you can fix that with compton

2017-06-12 20:44:14 UTC

i could absolutely take advantage of a quad xeon rig and a couple hundred gigs of ram

2017-06-12 20:44:15 UTC

I would like to get some ITX VIA boards for the no-botnet x86 experience now that I'm in Taiwan

2017-06-12 20:44:35 UTC

also: bulk ebook conversion

2017-06-12 20:45:16 UTC

when you have a few hundred thousand pdfs to convert to epub you start to appreciate more ram and more cpu real quick

2017-06-12 20:46:23 UTC

you don't have to do that daily

2017-06-12 20:46:31 UTC

doing it _once_ justifies it

2017-06-12 20:46:43 UTC

i literally cannot convert my library on my most powerful machine right now

2017-06-12 20:46:48 UTC

for such tasks I just rent myself a really sick server for a few hours / days / whatever time I need

2017-06-12 20:46:53 UTC

older xesons, but dual 8 core xeon box nonetheless

2017-06-12 20:47:02 UTC

xeons even

2017-06-12 20:47:52 UTC

then it also has less ram than my desktop and i haven't bothered adding more since i need a new psu backplane

2017-06-12 20:48:30 UTC

>get redundant 1kW supplies >backplane fails instead of either psu

2017-06-12 20:49:34 UTC

would still buy hpe again though, just probably not a g6

2017-06-12 20:50:52 UTC

@porco Refurb pro cameras of the generation before current - yes, anything before that **no**

2017-06-12 20:51:02 UTC

t. own Niko D1x

2017-06-12 20:51:47 UTC

so which one would that be now?

2017-06-12 20:51:53 UTC

any suggestion?

2017-06-12 20:52:12 UTC

Which.. one?

2017-06-12 20:52:17 UTC

camera

2017-06-12 20:52:34 UTC

There's more than a handful of cameras

2017-06-12 21:03:19 UTC

What's the cheapest decent one?

2017-06-12 21:08:27 UTC

I guess a beat up used sony rx100 (first gen) or early sony nex 5 + adapted thriftstore lenses. Or one step up above entry level nikon / canon / panasonic from after 2014

2017-06-12 21:14:12 UTC

Thank you a lot

2017-06-12 21:14:18 UTC

I'll take a look

2017-06-12 21:16:29 UTC

Do buy lens adapters (and caps etc), but ***NOT*** lenses from the chinks* There's two or so microbrands that make lenses but I don't think anyone here is in the market for a $800 macro lens or $2000 portrait lens

2017-06-12 21:17:19 UTC

just curious, how big's a meme the m43 platform on /p/?

2017-06-12 21:17:37 UTC

Can't really say, I've avoided it the last 3 years

2017-06-12 21:17:47 UTC

Ooh, any reason?

2017-06-12 21:19:17 UTC

I got an E-M5 as my first 'serious' camera and I'm interested in what the limitations of the platform are
