Im not surprised that's a thing

2017-06-19 21:02:28 UTC

i'm prooobably actually gonna go for a router over a knee mill, easier to cut front panels and such plus i don't need to work with steel

2017-06-19 21:02:35 UTC

everything i do with metal aluminum is fine

2017-06-19 21:02:50 UTC

Where do you purchase aluminium?

2017-06-19 21:02:57 UTC

aluminium tree

2017-06-19 21:03:26 UTC

he probably just has a local supplier

2017-06-19 21:03:39 UTC

right now i just have a couple fdm machines, they're neat and all and i can work with a loooot of materials with em since my hotend gets up to 300C and i have a pretty good fume-catching setup, but like you can only do thermoplastics with those

2017-06-19 21:03:44 UTC

or just harvests it from shit like i do

2017-06-19 21:03:50 UTC

sure nylon is cool, polyurethane is cool, but i want metal too

2017-06-19 21:04:06 UTC

i live down the road from the industrial side of town

2017-06-19 21:04:30 UTC

i can get any material i need, hell i can usually ask a buddy for some scrap and they go "yeah sure take i"

2017-06-19 21:05:02 UTC

i harvest shit as well though, rebuilding atm but i have a filament extruder for recycling plastics

2017-06-19 21:05:14 UTC

o shit cool

2017-06-19 21:05:22 UTC

Anyone have an SLA/DLP printer?

2017-06-19 21:05:37 UTC

60/40 virgin abs resin / recycled shells gives you serviceable plastic blend for anything where strength isnt critical

2017-06-19 21:05:44 UTC

i'm looking at getting a dlp printer

2017-06-19 21:05:49 UTC

wait for the wanhao d7 to hit v2

2017-06-19 21:05:54 UTC

that's what i'm doing

2017-06-19 21:06:09 UTC

I'm comfortable with the idea * of building one

2017-06-19 21:06:48 UTC

be aware though uv resin is about as expensive as good quality rtv silicone

2017-06-19 21:06:52 UTC

it's not cheap like fdm

2017-06-19 21:07:00 UTC

How expensive are we talking about

2017-06-19 21:07:07 UTC

$20 a liter?

2017-06-19 21:07:16 UTC

try $60-$100

2017-06-19 21:07:22 UTC

Holy fuck

2017-06-19 21:07:23 UTC

for decent quality resin

2017-06-19 21:07:39 UTC

But the resolution on dem parts

2017-06-19 21:07:51 UTC

i'm sure there's some horrible shit resin that doesnt work right and takes too long to cure for $20/L

2017-06-19 21:08:10 UTC

but you don't want that for sla/dlp printer

2017-06-19 21:08:17 UTC

that's more for molding parts

2017-06-19 21:08:32 UTC

Yup, i'm guessing that's the difference

2017-06-19 21:08:45 UTC

between the regular resin that's 20$ a litre

2017-06-19 21:09:01 UTC

Curing time

2017-06-19 21:09:14 UTC

there's also the 3d printing markup

2017-06-19 21:09:44 UTC

like how virgin abs pellets costs next to nothing but abs filament for 3d printer can cost $30/kg for a decent brand

2017-06-19 21:09:45 UTC

Cant you combat that with an insanely bright UV projection solution though?

2017-06-19 21:09:50 UTC

probably

2017-06-19 21:10:02 UTC

give it a shot and lemme know how it goes

2017-06-19 21:10:05 UTC

I know you can get 50W UV leds

2017-06-19 21:10:10 UTC

it may make me less hesitant to go for dlp

2017-06-19 21:10:13 UTC

and i can rig an adequate cooling system
