I'm referring to eBay prices for new
gonna check if warranty's still honoured if I don't buy from big retailer
@transience the electronics are a lot more expensive over here for variety of reasons
and no one ships them from ebay, even if the do the toll workers will tax the fuck out of you
well, I'm talkingabout estland, not sure about finland
finished setting up my aircraft tracker using the sdr I got off ali and an rpi
just ordered a second sdr and better antennae, hoping to use an opi too
holy shit
Which pi do you have?
rpi3
I bought chink sdr dongle too, hoping I can use it with my first gen pi
I've tried it on the opi zero but I got usb issues so I tried out the rpi image instead
@transience which chipset?
I'm running off RTL2838
How did you go about placing the antenna?
RTL2832U+R820T2
or so the chink says
the black dongle that says dvb+t, right?
yup
wait, no, the blue one
probably same shit
the blue one is meant to have R820T2 whereas the black one is R820T or something
supposedly better
right now I have the antenna dangling outside my window which gives me a pretty decent 100km ~120° range southwards
how's the reception if you just place it inside next to the window?
already got my free flightradar24 business account 😄
nice
pretty shit, I barely got 5 nautical miles or so
so the quantity of data you upload doesn't really matter?
don't really know too much details, they turned it on after the tracker was on for an hour or three
I'm currently installing virtual radar server on my debian server so I don't have to host that shit on the desktop
works really well
the rpi broadcasts raw data on port 30002 and 30003 which you can use for all kinds of apps, including flight sim
Barely anything flies over here but I'm gonna be living like 6-7 miles away from london heathrow soon
uptime isn't 100% yet because it hasnt ran for 24 hours
I'm in The Hague, nearby Rotterdam Airport
couple hours ago I also picked up an emergency helicopter 😄
looking pretty sound
yup
