50w is a lot. 😄

2017-08-15 21:21:17 UTC

hello

2017-08-15 21:22:13 UTC

Just looked up CPU numbers. They're old, but I reckon fairly representative still. Some guy said his CPU idled at 25w, give or take, and went up to 145w at full blast.

2017-08-15 21:22:26 UTC

And at that point they require some pretty beefy cooling.

2017-08-15 21:23:05 UTC

I suppose a big honking heat sink like that would do the trick. 😄

2017-08-15 21:24:56 UTC

Could a 20w one be passively cooled with a hugenormous aluminium heatsink?

2017-08-15 21:25:15 UTC

I couldn't say.

2017-08-15 21:26:04 UTC

Guess I'll look into it before spending $2 on an LED module I won't be able to use

2017-08-15 21:26:20 UTC

>Lol how are you guys measuring this? An i7 at 4.0Ghz is going to be around 200w under a full load.

2017-08-15 21:26:38 UTC

That's... fuck. 200w?

2017-08-15 21:27:48 UTC

I did see some YT thing where some dude (possibly two?) built this massive water cooled... miniature sun.

2017-08-15 21:28:32 UTC

Oh, right. Those work lights.

2017-08-15 21:28:46 UTC

I guess you could do the passively cooled dealie with ease then, @s3bbe.

2017-08-15 21:29:06 UTC

That said, those Chinese work lights, according to Saint Clive, aren't anywhere near their stated power rating.

2017-08-15 21:30:43 UTC

they're probably 40-50W actually

2017-08-15 21:31:34 UTC

and 150W in conventional light
